Excellent product with only 3 (now 2) minuses, 11 Jun 2013
I purchased this pad for my new Dell Inspirion 17r SE laptop. I was unable to find any information about compatibility of the pad with this laptop, so hopefully this review will help the owners of Dell Inspiron 17r SE to make a decision.
The pad is very good, coolers are really quite, no noise at all. The build quality is good, too. Everything is great except the following 3 minuses:
1) The item is advertised to work with 17'' laptops, however my laptop is slightly bigger than the pad, hence it looks a bit ugly on it + the air holes do not cover all its surface in full. It might be because of my specific laptop, but I personally think that the pad is great for 15'' laptops only, not for 17'' as advertised. Yeah the 17'' laptops will fit somehow, but the holes will not cover all the surface, which makes no point of buying this pad for such big laptops.
2) The air flow - it is not strong, you can hardly feel the cool air coming from holes. I expected much stronger airflow. Don't get me wrong - it DOES cool down the laptop, however I am sure the fans can work stronger! I ordered a mains for it and hopefully it will do the trick (I read on forums that the fans working much better with DC).
3) The mains - it should be included in the package! We pay almost 30 pounds and need to pay extra for a mains, which is quite annoying!
Other than this, the pad works well and still cools down the laptop. I will try to update this review once I will receive the DC.
Hope this helps. Thanks!
P.S. I rated this pad 4 stars today but changed it to 5. The reason is its performance - even though the air flow is weak, it really cools down the laptop! I was playing Skyrim with max settings and temperature of CPU and GPU was only 40-45 degrees, which is fantastic! Plus the air that the laptop's cooler flows is cold, not warm at all! Without the pad the temperature was a lot higher and the laptop was very hot, with this pad it is not! 5 stars definitely!! Thanks!
P.S.S. Switched back to 4 stars again - the pad's noise is louder now than it was yesterday! Only 1 day of usage!
P.S.S.S. Received my adapter today - 5v POWER SUPPLY For Neet® Switch - Neet® Lifetime warranty (an excellent item by the way for just 3 pounds, fits the pad perfectly!). The airflow is the same. Did some testing using Core Temp and Speed Fan programs: in normal mode the CPU temperature is 38-39 degrees, GPU (NVidia) is 36 degrees. Ran a stress test with Hot CPU Tester - with 100% usage the CPU temperature was 62 degrees, ran a stress test with FurMark - with 100% GPU load the GPU temperature was 58 degrees. The surface of laptop was not hot even with 100% CPU load, the air from laptop fan was just a VERY LITTLE warm. Excellent results I think.
Will revert back to 5 stars as this pad really does make a difference even without DC. As the DC makes no difference I will take 1 minus back, so it is 2 minuses now: one the size - it is small for 17 inches laptop guys, the other one is the noise - when laptop works a while, the pad starts to make a noise, but when you turn it off for an hour and turn it on again it works quite until evening :)
Hope this helps!
