Procter Pest-Stop Snap Trap (Boxed Single Pack)
Procter Pest-Stop Snap Trap (Boxed Single Pack)
Price: £2.79

5.0 out of 5 stars Best trap I've found after trying many other types, 21 Jan. 2015
I've used these traps for years, having tried a variety of different makes and styles (including electronic ones).

They are by far the easiest to set, and very sensitive indeed. The bait that comes in the trap lasts for a few months (but will melt in hot weather and drip out.) I've found that placed jaws facing a wall they will work without bait as the mice run round the area keeping away from the open. They can easily be re-baited with chocolate (melt it on your fingers and wipe it into the bait well).

I've found with large mice you must place them jaws facing a wall, or else use a cardboard box if you can see the mouse run elsewhere. If you don't there's a slight chance the mouse won't get it's neck broken (only happened to me twice in five years).

3.0 out of 5 stars Cheap but suitable for light use only, 30 Mar. 2013
You'd be hard pushed to find anything cheaper and for well kept private hedges and the like this tool is fine. There are two problems with it though. Unlike most long-reach trimmers you cannot angle the trimmer with respect to the pole, so you cannot trim your hedge for height. The only way round this is to either get to the height of the hedge which rather negates the advantage of a long reach tool, or to taper the hedge at the top which looks like it hasn't been trimmed!

The other problem is that the slip clutch, if there is one, does not protect the gears and once you've stalled the cutters a few times the gears are stripped and the machine's life pretty much at an end. I did this with a blackthorn hedge, stalling the cutters twice before both gears were smashed. Prior to this it had coped with conifer and privet, so not totally useless, but beware of native hedges and of course hitting wire fencing etc.

Paddington and the Christmas Surprise

2.0 out of 5 stars Not one of his best..., 20 Nov. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this last Christmas for my (then) three year old, who enjoyed reading the first book where they find Paddington at the station.

This is not one of the best. Paddington jumps from a moving ride in a store, unnoticed, to mend the flashing light in a model lighthouse. When they realise he is missing from the ride, the Brown family are more concerned that he will be cross about missing the attractions rather than for his safety. The story goes downhill from there, with the twist being that, after leaving, people flock to the store to look for the bear that caused strange goings on, and Mrs Bird apparently arranges with the manager for Paddington to get a jar of marmalade from the store Santa as a reward.

Neither of my children enjoyed the story (and still don't), which is a shame because the Christmas special is usually a sure fire hit with any series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Limited tilt but otherwise excellent value, 20 Nov. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Fast delivery and fairly good quality item that was well packed. The postage costs are fair given the weight of the bracket and the sturdy box it came in. All fixings for wall and screen included and a spanner for the bolt, and clear instructions for those who not mechanically minded. For the price it is excellent value, but there are a couple of gripes that would have been critical at the published 'retail' price...

The tilt is achieved with a curved section stamped and pressed out of the back of the screen mounting bracket. This sits in a curved spacer which is held with a through-bolt onto the arm mount. A slot in the curved section allows the screen bracket to tightened above or below the centre of the curve, altering the vertical angle of the screen. So a neat solution, except the slot is only half the length it could be, limiting the angle of tilt. This is a design error rather than quality control and is a shame because it seriously affects the functioning of the bracket.

Uses rubber o-rings to provide friction between joints - another neat solution except the recesses were not all machined / cast to the correct depth. So two of the joints are perfect but the one nearest the screen bracket cannot be fully tightened. As a result, moving the lateral direction of the screen undoes the screw. Another issue was the mounting of the arm to the wall plate - this was considerably out of alignment, making the bracket sit off the horizontal. Finally, the edges of the casting are sharp, and the powder coat has been chipped off during handling leaving bright metal. So manufacture / quality control not the best, although the bracket is sturdy and capable of much greater loads than advertised.

So overall a good value product, and ideal for mounting and fixing a screen in one position. However this is not top quality and, unless mine was a bad one, not suited to continual adjustment or as part of an interior-design style installation where appearance is important.

Edit: I've just noticed this is now more than three times the price I paid for it; it was good value at fifteen quid, now not so much...

5.0 out of 5 stars Robust, easy to use, nice plain appearance, 23 Jan. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Good price with free postage. Bought to replace Salter Aquatronic scales which were unreliable, switched off whilst your back was turned and claimed to measure liquids when they did no such thing (just changed 'g' to 'ml' on the display!)

Scales are small and light and seem very well made. Ours takes a PP3 battery. Auto off time seems sensible (doesn't switch off whilst you're opening a new bag of sugar).

I like the plain look of them, as far as I can tell these are the same as the 'James Martin' scales but without the name.

They also seem to be very accurate - so far every loaf from our breadmaker has been perfect; with the Salter scales we would get at least one loaf a week not rising properly, which usually means incorrect proportion of flour to water.

Overall seem like a very good product.

Edit:

I've had these scales for nearly two years and they have proved to be very good indeed. However I notice that the model supplied now has changed; the ones I got seem to be available here:

As far as I can tell they are identical to the celebrity chef-endorsed James Martin by Wahl scales;

3.0 out of 5 stars Paying for the name, 17 Jan. 2010
Good scales, however if you search for 'amh scales' you can get pretty much the same thing about 20% cheaper, and without the name of some obscenely rich celebrity chef scrawled across it!

I notice since buying the AMH scales that the model supplied has changed. However the type that I bought still seem to be available from another seller. As far as I can tell they are identical but for the name.:

The James Martin scales are now available here:

Many thanks to the commenter who's terribly serious outlook on life inadvertently brought this to my attention!

1.0 out of 5 stars Very misleading, 11 July 2009
I bought these scales for their 'liquid measurement' feature; what a great idea - need 250ml of oil for a salad dressing? 100ml of treacle for gingerbread? Surely then you just pick a suitable setting for oil or syrup?

Unfortunately all the 'Aquatronic' seems to do is change the 'g' unit to 'ml'. I know it's difficult to believe, but really, that's all it does!

I'm surprised this sort of thing is even legal. They claim it measures liquids. Liquids are measured by volume. For a weighing scale to measure volume, it MUST be possible to set the density, otherwise it's just measuring the weight of the liquid and you'll get different volumes for different liquids.

This is an absolute con, don't be fooled by their clever marketing weasel words...
