This is my first Blu-ray high-definition audio disc.

It seems as if the Prague Sinfonia Orchestra were playing in my living room!

Masaaki Suzuki and Bach Collegium Japan have kept their performances in an outstandingly high level throughout the whole cycle of Bach’s Sacred Cantatas, and the final volume of this series is no exception. From the earliest three cantatas – Suzuki recorded them in chronological order – to this last extant three, you will not find but reasons to praise, and praise is what sacred music is all about – to praise God through art. Since the dimensions of these works, both artistically and religiously, are unsurpassed, I will simply go obvious here, recommending the entire series to those who appreciate art in music, as well as to individuals inclined to glorify God artistically.

5.0 out of 5 stars Do not hesitate, 27 Sept. 2013

Initially, I intended to purchase but a few selected volumes from the Suzuki’s cycle of Cantatas, to compensate the weak side of my collection of these works; but he and his Bach Collegium Japan are splendidly talented, and BIS’s CDs and SACDs, exceptionally well recorded – let us thank Robert von Bahr for that. Bit by bit, I decided to buy something more, and suddenly, the whole cycle, the Mass, the Christmas, Ascension and Passover oratorios, the Passions, the Motets, the Secular Cantatas, everything but Magnificat, for Herreweghe’s version seemed matchless to me. I finally surrendered and ordered Suzuki’s CD, and, as Debussy trusted his ears even to compose, I will not engage eruditely to justify the excellence I heard. I give my modest testimony. This is now undoubtedly my favorite recording of this Bach’s masterpiece. The three other magnificats were welcomed. Kuhnau’s work is more colorful in timbre, but, to my ears, inferior to Zelenka’s compositions. Ten stars and: Magnificat anima mea dominum…

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding as ever, 10 Aug. 2011
This review is from: Bach Cantatas Vol.48 (Audio CD)
I bought nearly every released volume in this collection, and realized it is almost impossible to find in them a disappointing interpretation of a single piece of music. The cantatas, Masaaki Suzuki, Bach Collegium Japan and its soloists were born to join their remarkable virtues with the purest sound that BIS, this so proficient Swedish company, is able to record. If, like me, you are interested to praise God baroquely, or if you just like Bach and is pondering which set of cantatas to buy, anyway, go with this.
