The Course of Islam in Africa (Islamic Surveys)
by Mervyn Hiskett
Edition: Paperback

1.0 out of 5 stars No!, 3 May 2010
This book is very sketchy and very vague. Avoid this book and try T. Arnold's preaching of Islam or Spread of Islam, they are the same book.

Gardens of the Righteous: Riyadh as-Salihin of Imam Nawawi
Gardens of the Righteous: Riyadh as-Salihin of Imam Nawawi
by Riyadh As-Salihin
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy it!, 10 Feb. 2010
This is the best translation available at the moment. I recommend this book to anyone and the only downside is that it does not have salutations after the name of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Apart from that its worth the purchase.

3.0 out of 5 stars Some weak sources, 28 Jan. 2010
This review is from: The Life of Muhammad (Hardcover)
This is a good source material for the early life story of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) but please not that I found some problems with the translation and the materials sourced. As the validity for sourcing Sira is not as high as other sourcing which does mean that some stories are not authentic and some are not correct. So bear that in mind but it is still an excellent text.

2.0 out of 5 stars Strange, 28 Oct. 2009
The problem with this text is that it does not have the answers to the questions that I wanted to be answered. That is the main problem. It was written for the skeptic Westerner but it fails to give definite answers to the questions that the text itself raises. So for me this text is better to be avoided for these reasons. However, I do feel that anyone writing 800+ pages on the subject of Sira should be praised but this skipped over many details that a text of this size should not have. Borrow don't buy.

2.0 out of 5 stars Borrow not buy, 24 Aug. 2009
This book although has some interesting and benifical information in there has some mistakes in it. I would avoid it as there are better books to read about Islam and science.
