The Vision of Islam
The Vision of Islam
by Sachiko Murata
Edition: Paperback
Price: £15.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Good introduction to Islam, 25 April 2008
This review is from: The Vision of Islam (Paperback)
I found this book to be well researched, well written and easy to read. The writer is interested in the spritual side of Islam and this can be seen in this work. But that adds to the book rather than takes away from it.

Although I didn't agree with all of the book its a great place for a non muslim to start reading and even a muslim will take some benefit from it.

Well worth reading.

2.0 out of 5 stars Strange read, 25 April 2008
I always respected her point of a view as someone looking into Islam as oppossed to someone looking out. I found parts of the book excellent and other parts poor. What did I find poor the fact she narrates from weak sources and then forms a narrative based upon this. She also attacks the companions with slander which is something that deeply disappointed me.

Judging by the reaction of the non-muslims who have reacted positively to the book, it may be for them.

I really enjoyed this text it really made me think a lot about the life I was living at the time and what my direction should be.

The book contains a lenghty introduction which can be skipped and read later - which I did. Most of the text is written in short bullet points which are easily understood.

I recommend this text to anyone who wants to think. Buy it!!

Jesus: Prophet of Islam

5.0 out of 5 stars Interest read, 3 April 2008
This is an extremely interesting read. Here we have the Muslim understanding of Jesus (upon him peace). He is revered as a Prophet of God without assigning divinity to him because Muslims belief divinity is for God alone.

It contains accounts of Jesuss' (upon him peace) childhood with some eyeopening accounts and stories of miracles. Also there are sections about how Christanity was changed from its monetheistic roots.

Its well worth purchasing with the advice that the updated version with Ahmed thomsons' additions is better because some information is a little dated. Read it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great classical text, 3 April 2008
This is another jem of a book by one of the greatest scholars of Islam Imam Nawawi. Its a book on how the Quran was revered and respected from the early generations of Muslims. I would recommend this text to anyone who is interested in learning who the Quran was treated and how the Quran should be treated. As many Muslims have forgetton this legacy because is the speech of God and should be respected and revered.

What can I say about this book? It really is amazing there is one quote when Abu Sulayman Al-Darani, "I once asked Umm Haroon whether she loved death. "I do not," She replied. Why not," I enquired, and she said, "Were I to disobey a human being I would not wish to to meet him. So how can I wish to meet Him when I have disobeyed Him?"

That should be enough for you to read the book.

This is one of the first books that I read about Imam Shadhali and its one of the best. It goes through various stages in his life and includes some translations of litanies. This is highly recommended.
