This is a strange, haunting novel which belies all its publicity.
Because of the blurb writers, it is almost impossible to approach this book with a clear mind: we all know about the lifeboat with its strange and varied cargo. What the author does though is to write a totally credible story: I found myself caring about Pi and about the fate of Richard Parker in a way which I could never have imagined halfway through the novel.
I loved the way in which the story ends: the alternative explanation of Pi's current plight at the end is far less credible, and infinitely less exciting that the story he has already told.
