3.0 out of 5 stars takes a long time to charge, 30 July 2010
I bought this item in order to be able to charge my iPhone when camping or otherwise away from a power source.

When I first got it, I left it on the window sill for a couple of days (in a mixture of sunny and cloudy weather) then tried to charge my iPhone. Its charge went up 1%, before the charger gave up and couldn't charge any further. So I put it back on the window sill for another 3 days, and tried again. This time it went up about 15% before giving up. Finally, I charged the device using the USB connection on my computer, and eventually it showed a green light - meaning "fully charged". I was then able to charge my iPhone, and it went all the way to fully-charged.

I've not yet been able to test the claim that it can charge a phone three or four times from the battery, but I would be very surprised if the rate of charging from the solar panels allows you to use this device as the only source of power for your phone. It will be useful, effectively as a spare battery, when camping, but I now don't expect to collect sufficient sunlight to keep it charged for a long period (e.g. a week) even when using the phone very little.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 31 May 2009
Not nearly so good as "The Armchair Economist" - just a collection of left over ideas
