5.0 out of 5 stars Cult director Russ Meyer's three Vixen films, 31 Dec. 2011
This review is from: Vixens Trilogy [DVD] (DVD)
A bizarre soft core bundle of nonsense. The human Barbi dolls fulfill every man's fascination with breasts and the 'comedy porn' moments are hilarious.
Rubbish plots and even more rubbish acting means that I should hate these, especially as I am a woman. But I don't.
Highly recommended if you are a broad minded individual and like slapstick violence, trashy b-movies and comedy bazoomas (real ones!).
One minute we're watching a virtually plotless sex romp, the next minute we're involved in a tense hijack with communism versus capitalism diatribes coming from all sides. It is a real mish mash of styles but it somehow all comes together and works really well.I love the randomness of these films coupled with twisted plot lines andterrific camera work.

Official blurb follows:
Featuring over four-and-a-half hours of electrifying erotic entertainment celebrating the female form, Russ Meyer's Vixens Trilogy is a carnal carnival of curvaceous cuties and voluptuous vixens starring Erica Gavin, Shari Eubank, Uschi Dugard, Christy Hartburg, Kitten Natividad and many more.
Vixen stars Erica Gavin as the eponymous heroine constantly seeking ways to satisfy her fiery libido during her bush-pilot husband's absence while he is transporting passengers around the remote Canadian Northwest. Vixen's libidinous activities are soon tempered, however, when husband Tom picks up a dangerous customer.
In Supervixens, a domestic squabble between Superangel (Shari Eubank) and her husband Clint (Charles Pitts) brings Officer Harry Sledge (Charles Napier) to their door to settle things down. Harry immediately falls for Superangel's considerable charms but his impotent attempts to satisfy her lust lead him into a violent rage, resulting in her murder. Clint, having been placed in the frame for the killing of his wife, escapes and embarks on a cross-country quest to clear his name.
Co-written by renowned American film critic Roger Ebert, Beneath The Valley Of The Ultravixens revolves around the marital problems of Lamar (Ken Kerr) and his long-suffering wife, Lavonia (Kitten Natividad). Lamar's hang-up is that there's only one form of sex that can turn him on and it's not one that particularly pleases Lavonia! Lamar agrees to seek help, but can he find it before Lavonia goes through every man in town to get her own satisfaction?

5.0 out of 5 stars Not for purists......., 18 Nov. 2011
An absolute joy if you are an open minded lover of classical music. This is classical music with attitude and I loved it!!
There is no doubt that Kennedy divides opinion but this former child prodigy delivers a masterpiece.

5.0 out of 5 stars A golden oldie!, 21 Oct. 2011
Out of the many filmed versions of this 19th century novel this one, in my opinion is the best.
It somehow comes alive in black and white and with Orson Welles as the dashing Mr Rochester and Joan Fonatine as Jane Eyre this gothic,Victorian romance has it all.
To director Robert Stevenson's (with more than a nod to Orson Welles!!)credit, this version of Jane Eyre is beautifully crafted and performed.Any fan of classic Hollywood would be thrilled to watch this-highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lifesaver!, 21 April 2011
This review is from: Stain & Odour Remover (Misc.)
I cannot recommend this highly enough.I have two cats (one elderly) and a dog so inevitably there are 'accidents' occasionally that need to be dealt with.No nasties are contained in this product-and it does exactly what it says on the tin. Most stains on my cream carpet can be dealt with and it has a pleasant scent, not a horrible chemical smell.
I always have one in the cupboard to deal with kids and pets and would not be without it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another super John Thaw drama., 17 Jan. 2010
This review is from: Stanley And The Women (DVD)
John Thaw produces a superb performance as Stanley Duke the father of schizophrenia suffer Steve-played by Samuel West.
Based on the novel by Kingsley Amis this mini series from 1991 is a funny bittersweet drama that is both moving and disturbing. The characters have been well adapted from the book and the material is handled sensitively. It contains a wonderful supporting cast of Geraldine James,Michael Elphick,Sheila Gish and Alun Armstrong- a highly recommended drama about one man's struggle in life and the women who surround him.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Welcome To Britain., 25 July 2009
This gem of a documentary was made by director Anthony Asquith in 1943 for American GI's arriving in war-time Britain. It stars Burgess Meredith who visits English pubs, homes and schools to show the soldiers exactly what-and what not-to do.Some wonderously humourous sketches including the great Bob Hope attempting to explain pounds, shillings and pence, an appearance by the marvellous Beatrice Lille and a visit to Northern Ireland where we meet US soldiers stationed there.
A witty insight into how the Americans saw us Brits all those years ago-I thoroughly enjoyed watching this and would recommend it.There are no subtitles for this dvd.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another fabulous trip down memory lane., 20 July 2009
This is the second Saturday morning pictures DVD that I have watched.
'Go Kart Go' is based around an annual go kart race where two children attempt to build one 'super kart' between them andwin the race.Starring a young Dennis Waterman and Wilfred Brambell and made in 1963, this is a bit dated but still enjoyable.
A hitch in Time has aged much better in my opinion and is great fun for a low budget Saturday morning film.Patrick Troughton is the inventor who has built a time machine that the children get to try out. They visit the Stone Age and the Civil War period plus the Queen's Coronation. This film is great fun and will amuse and delight.Made in 1978-this one is in colour and is one of the later films produced by the children's film foundation.
No subtitles are included on this dvd.

5.0 out of 5 stars Saturday Morning Pictures, 20 July 2009
Want to revisit the time when things seemed so much simpler? Then this is the very dvd for you.
A tradition started before the war which has all but died out now it was something the kiddies looked forward to all week. The film was almost secondary as the noise and excitement would cause the film to be stopped on several occasions whilst the manager told us off and to behave or he would stop the film-the life of an usherette was definitely a miserable one on Saturday mornings.Mob mentality was the order of the day as parents did not accompany the kids.
The two films on this dvd are a true representation of that era.'The adventures of Hal 5' is the story of an old 1920's Austin car that is purchased by two children and their uncle.A man tries to streal their beloved car and sell it for lots of money but the kids are too quick for him-lots of car chases and mayhem ensue.Made in 1957 in good old B & W it's a lovely trip down memory lane.
'Egghead's Robot' is a children's Sci-fi film where a boy uses his father's robot as his double to help out in all sorts of situations which unfortunately do not always go to plan-starring a young Keith Chegwin (yes-he used to be a kiddie actor)Patricia Routledge and Roy Kinnear.
A lovely trip down memory lane-both films have their place in cinema history but it is 'The adventures of Hal' that shines here.
There are no subtitles on this dvd.

5.0 out of 5 stars A more natural toothpaste., 18 July 2009
If,like me, you are concerned about the reports into the ingredients that go in to make the average toothpaste-synthetic dyes(one word-WHY?)sodium laurel sulphate, triclosan et al then maybe you should give this one a whirl. After complaining loudly that this new aloe toothpaste tasted disgusting -it didn't by the way-my kids adapted to the new toothpaste within 48 hours. It doesn't have the artificial taste that your average supermarket brand has or the nasty chemicals that modern life seems so insistant we ingest. After using this for about 3 years now I can truthfully day that I would never go back to the other stuff.
