5.0 out of 5 stars Another stonking action book by an author of the highest calibre., 27 May 2014

Bernard Cornwell's love of historical detail is welded to a great plotline forming a highly readable tale of intrigue and warfare in Medieval France. The final melee of battle provides a climax to a strong and pacey storyline. Another of the author's books for lovers of historical action and intrigue.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well crafted, 18 May 2014

Better than the previous book. The reader is drawn more into the narrative and left with a better feeling of understanding without unexplained links between developments and alien technologies.

2.0 out of 5 stars The writer sums it up, 11 May 2014

Jeffrey Carver says in his summary that this is a transition book, and that he wrote it with little outline. Unfortunately it shows. His first 'Chaos' book was fine, but reading this second book was far less enjoyable. I will go on to read the third book in the series in the hope that he recovers his initial promise, but if there ed is no improvement I cannot see me being able to recommend the trilogy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost..., 24 April 2014

Better than some I have read, but personally I wish the author had resisted such an upbeat ending, going against much of the 'science' used elsewhere. This spoilt an otherwise less unbelievable ending and gave me the impression of an attempt to have a 'happy ever after' ending with no explanation of how it came about to satisfy the reader. Otherwise a decent end to a readable trilogy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good starting point, 15 April 2014

Decent premise with a good plotline even though parts of the story leave loose ends. A longer book could have dealt with these and added to story without detracting from it. overall though a fair read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good progression of the storyline, 13 April 2014

Good enough space opera to keep me reading, although in common with others of its type some of turns in the plot are rather convenient. Nonetheless the premise of the series means the plotline is bound to be complex and will need to take some liberties with the reader. The author should, perhaps, have looked to a longer book to enable room to allow for development of the the theories and weaponry which left me feeling rushed in the present version. Having said this, the book is enjoyable as it stands.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good read, 6 April 2014

One of the best sci-fi books I have read this year. Well crafted, good plotline, decent characterisation for what is essentially an 'action' book. Concepts are interesting without detracting from the story. Worth the money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nice try but..., 3 April 2014

Although the idea and underlying concepts of circular and linear time are a good idea the execution is lacking. There is no depth of character to involve the reader, simplistic use of personnel, no attempt to allow suspension of disbelief - all of which are essential for a good book. Unfortunately I will not be attempting to read any further episodes.

3.0 out of 5 stars FAIR READ, 27 Mar 2014

Book moves along at a decent pace. Not a great deal of depth of plot or character, so reads like an action film rather than a classic. Nonetheless, better than some on the market, and works as an understanding relaxing read.
