5.0 out of 5 stars Longtime coming....worth the wait, 2 July 2006
Have been looking forward to this album for a long time, and it has been worth the wait. I have heard the album three or four times now, through promo, and its certainly a strong debut. Luckily I have seen the band numerous times live and you get a feeling that they are just getting stronger. Hopefully these guys will be on the summer tours.

A long wait is now over for the fans who heard the brilliant 'Medicine Day' eons ago. The debut album, preceded by this cracking single, is on its way in 2005 and the lads are gonna hit the bigtime fast. Like labelmates The Coral and The Zutons, The Basement will have a very busy year!!! BUY IT

5.0 out of 5 stars Demented, 3 Mar. 2003
Cult icon and all-round american nutcase bruce campbell admits to being bemused at the thought of this beloved horror masterpiece being a 'cult' classic, in his FANalysis documentary on this dvd edition of the film. However deluded you are to horror films, there is no mistaking how much a labour of love this film is to its fans and creators. Constantly re-released on both video and DVD, the film is a must for all DVD collectors for one simple reason, the makers were just as insane as any character in the movie. Such a detailed and truly astonishing achievement in film-making is even more shocking when considering location, money and it was a first time film. Raimi is a genius, buy this edition of the Evil Dead!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting!?!, 11 Sept. 2002
I was introduced to this book about 1 year ago by my father who had picked it up on business in the US. I really had no idea who Chuck barris was. Firstly enthralled by the insane sleeve notes about a Game show creator-cum-assasin, I read on to find out it all to be true, (well, acoording to Barris its true). Honestly after finishing the book I was scepticle about its origins, nobody questioning barris as if the book just appeared and nobody cared, but in hearing that a film is in production, (and that Charlie Kaufman is attached to write), it will further intensify a truly interesting myth. An interesting read that you wanna believe, despite how ludicrous it sounds.

5.0 out of 5 stars A re-watched classic!!!, 7 May 2002
My brother, and I, first saw Big trouble..., when we were about 8 years old. We were just about to go on holiday and my father rented this video, immediate addoration!!! I mean it sounds silly now that I'm older, but my brother and I still have a copy each, it's true! Of course the subject matter is a must for all John Carpenter fans, (i.e. horror, sorcery, Kurt russell).Whilst admitting it never reaches the genre-defying heights of The Thing, or Halloween, the film never tries to be anything other than pure theatrical madness, check out Russell's performance for instance, never will you see a bigger all-american hero wannabe than Jack Burton. The special effects are great, the fight scenes are amazing, (the street fight in the alley especially between the 'wing-kong' and the chang-sings') and the script is, admirably, taking the mickey out-of-itself. All these elements make for a real good film, and with this DVD you get the extra bonus of deleted scenes, commentary, alternate endings and a much looked forward to music video starring, yes its true, John Carpenter himself...MAGIC!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mexico's dogfight contender, 20 Oct. 2001
A gut-wrenching explosion not seen since, well, another south american artist such as Brunuel! Especially not in this context. Superior film-making has a truly justified owner now. An omnivalence silently disturbs its way through this piece, as all stories lock horns in a car accident that pulls all the films weight. Actors, cinematography and sound all admit this film to absolute classic status...a very disturbing story of love, betrayal and pain.

5.0 out of 5 stars A compelling achievement in film-making, 28 July 2001
This review is from: Traffic [DVD] [2001] (DVD)
A disaster would be to underestimate TRAFFIC'S language. The film plays upon the hand-held camera-work of Steven Soderbergh,(Out of Sight, Sex, Lies and Videotape), and with it adapts a more personal reasoning between the charcters, the camera and the audience. The amazing interplay of worlds along with the astute colouring for seperate places are an amazing, if not time-consuming thrill. The original T'V series TRAFFIK was also a blinding piece of writing but its length, (exceeding 7 hrs), did lose a lot of people, however steve gaghans screenplay provides a current literary master-piece that will allow writers no limits in the way they can exchange, and create new worlds from an already existing peice. It would be criminal not to mention the shining-lite of the piece, a career defining performance from Benicio Del Toro. In terms of pure emotion it is truly compelling to watch this mans demeanour and facial anxiety during the picture, a very honest and noble character Javier Rodriguez is most definetely the films harness.Other outstanding performances from Luis Guzman, Don Cheadle to name a few make 4 Oscars and a handful of other awards truly deserved. However, these are not enough to explain this films power, it has the essence of a long-lived masterpiece like all period dramas which interact the comings and goings of the world around them,(i.e. The Third Man), and i feel it will most surely become one. An electrifying film with a very sincere message that runs throughout 'No one gets away clean', a statement worthy of every man, woman and child to ponder over in this remrkable medium.

5.0 out of 5 stars certainly is'nt!!!, 3 Jun. 2001
This review is from: Comedy Is Not Pretty (Audio CD)
Many would call Steve WEIRD, WACKY and sometimes 'get outta my hedges', but I call him steve. A plain and simple guy with a lotta irrational humour, but full to the brim with amazing timing. The best thing abvout Steve's stand-up work is the fact that he's not ramming important philisophical messages into you and crying for the kids, he'd rather talk about shoes and rubber-heads!!! The album is a must just for his exit alone! For anyone who's a fan of Steve Martin's film work, this is the first C.D to get. His finest performance to date.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential Hip-Hop, 28 May 2001
This review is from: Follow the Leader (Audio CD)
In wake of many faker's with fat gold-rings and huge bugaloo glasses Eric B & Rakim stormed the hip-hop world with this epic of pure bass proportions. Masterpieces like microphone fiend have been dissected and studied by many of todays artists, (rage against the machine, fatboy slim, fun lovin criminals etc), and only now can this album be truly appreciated!! Voted no.2 in the greatest rap albums of all time by Source magazine...THIS IS ESSENTIAL HIP-HOP!!!
