5.0 out of 5 stars Stomach churning terror., 17 Dec 2001
This review is from: Shivers [1975] [DVD] (DVD)
This excellent film leads from a shocking start on a rapid downward spiral of fear and tension.
The eponymous creatures spread and with them the film, set in a tower block becomes one of the most terrifying experiences i have ever witnessed. the closed spaces and excellent direction make this a frighteningly real and intense experience.
The zombilike infected haunt the building and your imagination for hours. The plot and the direction of the film make it one of the seminal horrer films for this type of close up and suspenseful terror. This film left me breathless and truly scared in places and finished on a chilling note. A refreshing and ddifferent take on a much trodden path that is a must have for any horrer fan.
Fearsly frightening and compelling viewing.

4.0 out of 5 stars A breathtaking journey through the jungles of Vietnam., 5 Nov 2001
A Tour De Force, this film follows a soldier through his journey of body and mind, as he strugles to do his duty and emotionaly justify its end. This picture is at times disterbing and yet gives an excelent and gripping story. It makes you truely feel for the men as they fight their way through the Vietnam jungle. This has been achieved through a dramatic and moving script which gives a unique view of the war in Vietnam. The direction is exquisit, leaving you emotionaly and physicly drained. A powerful story and script grip and keep your atention throughout the film. This film is a landmark from one of the great directors. Ther is no higher recommendation I can give this film.
