2.0 out of 5 stars Sound quality is good for the children, 30 Mar. 2015

Sound quality is good for the children. No noise leakage. I have had 3 pairs of these now and each one snapped at the hinge. Reluctant to buy another. Also the "click and go 9" units (which are a life saver for parents in the car) tend to be VERY temperamental when inserting wired headphones with the sound regularly cutting out.

2.0 out of 5 stars Dark, poor rhymes and a sad ending - not for small children, 22 Nov. 2012
I loved reading "The Pirates Next Door" to my son and hoped that this would be more of the same.

Alas it doesn't hit the mark for a 2 or 3 year old and I suspect it wouldn't for an older child either. The artwork is dark so hard to read with a night light (i.e. if you're putting the kids to bed), the characters are not likeable nor friendly and the story does not rhyme nor contain fun repetition for a kid to link easily in to.

SPOILER ALERT

This coupled with a large scary monster at the end and the suspected death of all characters just makes it fail on every level for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great spotting potential for toddlers, 16 April 2012

A good firm book to take a toddlers manhandling. Great and very detailed illustrations with so many well drawn things on each page to spot and help build language skills. Reminds me of Benedict Blatwayth's books (Litle Red train and In the Country) which also we love

This review is from: I'M Toys 22050 Melody Mix (Toy)
My son (1 year old) loves the rattles and triangle on this toy which are quite robust and not too loud. The xylophone is not in tune which is a real shame as I imagine this would have been quite a simple thing to get right. The drum is so quiet as to be fairly worthless as a toy. The triangle makes a lovely sound but the leather strap holding it on is very easy to dislodge leaving you with three separate pieces to find and put back together. The wind chimes are also loved by Fergus as when they clink together they do make a lovely sound. They are tied together with a slip knot so regularly end up wedged against the supporting bar which leads to no sounds and 3 minutes of sorting it all back again. Some of the drum sticks fall through their holders when you pick the item up so you end up bending over to pick up lots of pieces on the floor when moving it from one place to another. Does my son like this ... yes absolutely. I regularly put it on the floor for him and it holds his attention for a 5 or so minutes. Is it well made ... no.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple, soft and effective, 29 Sept. 2010

Much easier to use than other swaddles as you don't have to wrestle babys arms into place. Very simple piece of kit, soft and nice feel to the fabric and we'll be using more of them in the future.

2.0 out of 5 stars Misses on too many levels, 17 Dec. 2009
I'm a fan of both Andy Remic and David Gemmell's work and would heartily recommend any of Andy's other books. This alas I can't for the folowing reasons.

The story in terms of characters is a cut and paste job (homage?) and because Andy is trying to recreate Druss, Sieben etc in stead of creating his own vibrant characters he ends up with a poor pastiche with limited depth, flavour and interest. The language used (Laddie / Live of Die and as mentioned in an earlier review Old Horse) was frankly irritating as these were key phrases from Druss and being spoken by another simply brought back into focus that this book lacks everything that Legend has. Yes it's fast paced, yes there's twists but perhaps the action that Andy writes so well (guns / explosions etc) is less well suited to swords and axes which did not seem (to me) to have the same knowledge base of combat behind them.

I will most cretainly read any other Remic novels (barring this series) in the future as I love his work. I read Kells Legend to the end mainly to get the book over with, if it was another author I think I would not have bothered going that far.

2.0 out of 5 stars Pointless for profit writing, 30 Jun. 2006
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I loved "there will be dragons" and followed this series with interest. Alas, the characters in this book are flat and uninspiring, the plotline dull and interesting and overall the books seems to be more a quick buck making filler as opposed to a meaningful contribution to the series. I love Ringos other works but this alas must rank easily at the bottom.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best book on communication &reflective listening barnone, 24 Aug. 2001
I regularly coach groups on interpersonal communication and have to admit that this book, for me, was a real gem of a find. I have read many books on interpersonal communication ... and have generally been disappointed on the coverage of reflective listening and communication barriers ... Bolton's book ... was simple, easy to understand, easy to learn and follow ... and yet dealt with fundamental communication skills that you generally only see expert coaches or counsellors use. Wonderful!
