Anything Goes: A Biography of the Roaring Twenties
Anything Goes: A Biography of the Roaring Twenties
by Mrs Lucy Moore
Edition: Paperback
Price: £10.39

5.0 out of 5 stars Great piece of work, 22 Sep 2013

i loved reading this book; learned so much about so many different aspects of the twenties. Fascinating details and information and I appreciated in particular Moore's demolishing of myths regarding the Ku Klux Klan; her lively chapter on jazz, and the rise of the skyscraper buildings. Her global approach of viewing the hedonism and frivolity of the twenties as a reaction to the tragedy and loss during WWI is an interesting perspective which seems logical.

My only criticism would be of the title. It does not prepare the reader for the fact that the book focuses solely on the American experience of the roaring twenties: it could rather be subtitled with a reference to this fact.

5.0 out of 5 stars An extraordinary and very moving piece of work, 23 July 2013

An extraordinary and very moving piece of work which should be 'must' reading for the world. The depth of compassion and the breadth of the detail, the humanity in the face of the most crude and base aspects unimaginable of man's capacity for abject cruelty - it must have been a very hard book to write, but one so very important to write and to record.
