5.0 out of 5 stars Seconds Out is now Second Best !!!, 30 Jun. 2014
A lot of people who have already bought Live At Hammersmith will ask themselves do I really need this concert as well ?

The answer to that one is an emphatic YES !!!

The set is different, as are a number of the guest musicians, the camera angles on the DVD are also different and having played a huge number of concerts between the two recordings the band are also tighter, and this is highlighted in the Stereo Mix of the DVD which is in my opinion superior to Hammersmith, providing greater detail and balance, though the Bass Pedals may be a bit too "up front" for some.

I doubt that this magnificent venue has ever had a more humble and self deprecating performer take centre stage than Steve Hackett. He seems at times to be overwhelmed by the reception he and the band received from the capacity crowd.

What really stands out to me is the sheer enjoyment on the faces of the performers and having seen the band live at an unrecorded venue I can attest to the fact that this is not put on for the cameras, quite simply there is a chemistry between the musicians and the music that is rarely seen.

From the power of Apocalypse in 9/8 to the subtlety of the acoustic version of Ripples beautifully sung by the lovely Amanda Lehmann every note played grabs your attention and demands to be listened to in reverence.

Seconds Out used to be the Gold Standard live performance of Genesis songs. Not any more, there may not be Collins, Banks or Rutherford on stage but it simply does not matter. Never before have these epic songs been performed live as well as this.

Roger King covers the keyboard parts of Banks as well as if not better than the man himself, and the same can be said of Gary O'Toole on Drums, Lee Pomeroy on all things Bass and 12 string. Throw in Mr Wind, Rob Townsend on all thing that can be blown or shaken plus occasional keys, and last but no means least Nad Sylvan on Vocals whose voice seems to have grown in confidence as the tour has gone on, you could close your eyes and be transported back to the 70's because the performances of all are flawless.

As for the man himself, Steve's playing just gets better with every passing year, and now he has taken custody of these songs his Guitar features as it should have done in the original mixes rather than being buried away.

Kudos to the man for taking on this immense project and taking it out to so many people worldwide.

If you get the chance to go and see one of the Genesis Extended performance this year, take it because it may well be the last time some of these musical epics are ever aired in public.

5.0 out of 5 stars Refreshed, not reinvented., 22 Oct. 2012
This review is from: Genesis Revisited II (Audio CD)
Some of Steve's best ever work in my opinion, head and shoulders better than Genesis Revisted Volume 1 and truer to the original versions without merely being a straight copy of the songs with different musicians.

Superb production, these old classics sound really fresh.

Amanda Lehmann has the voice of an Angel on Ripples, worth the price of the CD alone.

Bring on the forthcoming Tour of the Album and hopefully a Live CD to complement the Studio version.

Without doubt my favourite RT studio album.

For those of you who prefer RT live I can highly reccomend visiting his website where in the CD section you will find a live concert from the Sweet Warrior tour called Live Warrior.

Superb sound quality and top class musicianship, treat yourself to this one as a companion to the studio album, you won't regret it.
