1.0 out of 5 stars A poor movie, not worthy of its predecessors, 18 July 2015
Very disappointing. A poor movie, not worthy of its predecessors. Drab, dull, uninspiring, no lift to it - generally rather boring. It has put me off the series and I doubt that I will now bother with the forthcoming final instalment. My teenage children (who loved the first two movies) agree completely. Not a fitting tribute to the truly great actor Philip Seymour Hoffman.

2.0 out of 5 stars No radio in phone!! Disaster!!!, 6 May 2014
I "upgraded" from my Samsung Galaxy S3 without checking whether the S5 phone had a built in radio (O.K., my mistake). It doesn't!! I spend a lot of time travelling by train where the internet is rarely available, so used the FM radio in my S3 to keep up with the news and listen to the new music being released. Not any more! Why did they leave the radio out of what is otherwise a very good phone/internet device?? Crazy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding!, 14 Sept. 2013
This review is from: Trance [DVD] (DVD)
This is a really well made film and shows Rosario Dawson to be one of the best actresses around at present. She has been in some pretty average movies in this past ("Sin City" being a notable exception) but in the hands of Danny Boyle as director she really comes into her own. In fact all three lead parts come over well in what is an engaging and really well put together story. Essentially a very simple plot, made to appear complicated by the way it unfolds to the viewer, this movie is really well edited and shot with imagination. Thoroughly recommended.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dull, dull, dull., 14 Sept. 2013

This film must mark a low point for Tarantino (whose films I usually like). Not even an array of decent actors can save this film from being dull. It is essentially a car chase movie and the fundamental problem is that whilst it might seem exciting to an American, here in Europe pensioners cruise legally along motorways in queues going at between 70 and 84 miles per hour and many people drive much faster - heck, in Germany you can tank along in your Porsche and no-one will blink an eye. Nothing in this film comes over as exciting and there is hardly any plot. Wish I hadn't bothered to waste my time watching this one. DULL.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing., 11 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Not a great movie. This film suffers from a particularly poor script, unimaginative camera work and editing which leaves the story dull. Even Rosario Dawson's acting (which can be outstanding) is not given room to show its qualities until near the end when she starts to come into her own with some well delivered monologue once her character begins to find its dominant role. Dawson just does not look the age she is supposed to be throughout - they should have written her character as a post-graduate, not an undergraduate. However, the greatest shame of all is that a movie which had all the potential of delivering a forceful blow about female consent just becomes a revenge movie with poor dialogue.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing., 12 July 2013

Having seen the same director's "Kill List" and heard Mark Kermode's glowing review of this film on TV, I bought this movie expecting great things. Sadly, it turned out to be a real disappointment. Although it has its moments, but it ends up as a rather 'little' film in every way and is rather fragmented in the way it has been assembled - blank black scene breaks instead of great editing, not even any of the old-fashioned text breaks of the silent movies which Tarantino adopted - just poor scene changes. The story is 'small' and not very engaging and the whole thing feels really low-budget (not in a good way). On the other hand, the acting is pretty solid throughout. Sorry, can't recommend this one.

Stones olives really well but it is a bit of a fiddle getting each olive into position in the holding cup. Generally very good.

1.0 out of 5 stars A truly poor movie., 8 July 2013
This review is from: Cloud Atlas [DVD] [2013] (DVD)
Based on the simplistic idea that formed the ground for another memorably awful film, namely "The French Lieutenant's Woman", this film trawls over various eras to demonstrate the concepts of eternal love, reincarnation and overcoming oppression. Unfortunately, the only oppressive thing about it is the length of this boring piece of trash. The script alludes to novelists popular in the 1970's and even makes a pathetic try at mimicking the style of language so well constructed in "Clockwork Orange" but here made to sound as though written by an infant. Poor make up and old fashioned in appearance - it really is hard to think of anything to compliment about this film. A shame, as I really like a number of the actors who spent their time filming this thing. Advice - avoid. Save your time and money for something decent.

David Cronenberg has made some great movies - this is NOT one of them. Boring, self-indulgent rubbish. I kept watching to the end in the hope it might get better - I wish I hadn't bothered!
