Disappointing and shallow, 11 Jun. 2013
When reading the introduction and viewing some page examples, I decided to buy this book. However, the online preview is misleading. With name dropping such as Seurat and Kentridge I hoped to find a well elaborated and inspiring vision on contemporary drawing. But the author never really takes us on a intellectually challenging journey. She covers the subject following the classical themes, i.e. line, shape, figurative versus abstract, and many illustrative drawings are of her own hand (she has something with buttons, like the ones on your coat ...). most painfully, the book ends with a chapter describing the tools the contemporary draftsman might apply. Yes, you get a summary and a definition of The Pencil, Pastels, and so on.
Money not well spent.
