5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely Good Home IPL Treatment, 5 Jun. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Well, once again I have to pass this review over to my better half for her expertise in using these types of things. Now, obviously through the Vine system she has had three versions of these machines so now has a pretty good idea of what works and what does not.

So, over to Mrs. C for expert advice.

The Philips Lumea is an excellent way of removing unwanted hair, permanently at a fraction of the cost of salon treatments.

As with all IPL treatments, it will only work on certain skin types and colour of hair, so better to do a little research before purchase as if your skin is too dark or the hair is too light there will be little or no effect.

The gun itself is easy to use once you have established the correct level of intensity for your skin, you'll know if it's too high as it can be a little painful. Definitely better to be a little cautious initially. The skin 'contact' points all need to be in contact with the skin for the gun to fire, which can be a little bit tricky in awkward places, but this gives the reassurance that the gun won't fire accidentally.

This model comes with 2 extra attachments for the bikini area and facial area, without these the attachments the gun can be used on all other areas of the body to be treated.

I am very pleased with this product and so far it is giving very good results.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Consumer Pod Machine, 2 Jun. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
When I got this via Vine, I decided that I would give it to a friend to test out as they would use it far more than I would over a short period of time. I asked them to give me some pointers as their thoughts which they duly did. Mostly though, I can say that they were delighted with this product which makes top class coffee using a pod system. I did compare it to the one I already have which is a Krupps 'dog' that uses Nescafe pods and I think that this is better overall. Much neater to sit on your worktop and offers more options.

In a nutshell from my friends -

1.Its a great size fits on the worktop well without being intrusive

2.Instructions were simple to follow

3.Water container is easy to remove fill and replace

4.Milk reservoir is simple to remove clean fill and replace

5. Push button controls are easy to understand and use

6. The coffee really is truly excellent.

I'll add to their points that using pods - and I have a similar one - is probably the quickest and easiest way to get a decent cup of coffee without faffing around. However, I also have a bean to cup machine and whilst it takes a bit more time and cost a lot more to buy, there are some advantages. You have a much greater range of coffee which even if you buy esoteric stuff is still cheaper than pods over a long period of time. In some ways the best of both worlds is to have both types. A pod machine such as this which is possibly the best consumer one around and a bean to cup one for when you really want to nail it with something like Sang Tao No.8.

Overall, if this is in the price bracket you are prepared to go to, then almost certainly the current cream of the crop.

4.0 out of 5 stars Daughters Review, 1 Jun. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
A review from my daughter who I gave this to try out on behalf of the Vine program - cheers Amazon. I seem to have had a few of these things to review including the really expensive Philips one which my daughter also checked out. Overall I think she preferred this one for overall performance.

Anyway over to the young lady who clearly has more idea about this than I do.

I enjoyed using the smooth skin. It has a very quick 'recharge' time between flashes which means you can quickly cover an area. Other models I've used have several second between flashes. It does sting a little and you can occasionally smell burnt hair but I hope that is just it working as the same happens during salon treatment.

It automatically measures skin darkness and adjusts power to suit - more power for lighter skin tones. As one of the most powerful home-use machines on the market, this is a good safety feature to have.

It instructs you to look away whilst it flashes which is quite difficult and annoying to do whilst working on a large area and moving the device about and for this reason I think goggles should be included so you can safely watch the device at all times during treatment.

Overall I am satisfied with the product and hope the results continue to improve over the next few weeks of use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful W8 Mouse, 1 Jun. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Being honest here I would not buy a wired mouse for normal use. The cable is just too irritating. However I got this to review and one cannot be churlish about that so here goes.

Quality. Pretty good. You won't break this in normal use.

Functions. Well here is where you might find this a bit more useful than the average mouse because it has a small button on the side that can be used for various Windows 8 functions. I could list them but to be honest another reviewer has already done so and in far more detail than I would. However, bottom line is that one you get used to the button it does mean that negotiating the W8 environment much easier.

Of course you can use the mouse as per normal with the usual right and left buttons.

It's small(ish). Some like that some don't. For me personally with average sized men's hands it is fine to use. It's a bit like a travel mouse for a laptop if that helps to describe it.

Overall this is a good quality mouse that is useful for W8 as long as you are happy with it being wired.

Bought two of these. One for my step daughters garden and one for ours so that the grandchildren can sit outside enjoying a bit of fresh air without risking sun burn.

There is plenty of room for the twins to sit and play - they are not quite at the crawling stage - with space to spare.

Light and easy to put up and take down and at the price a no-brainer if you want to keep the youngsters protected sensibly.

Unlike some I understand that these 'free' apps are simply a means of reading a magazine that you subscribe too or pay for. In that sense the app is superb. It's easy to use and makes reading a magazine simple and of course for the likes of myself, a person who travels the world on work brilliant for accessibility.

BRM itself is possibly the best model railway magazine available in the UK. I subscribe to both BRM and Hornby. The layout and content in both is remarkably similar with BRM shading it because there is just a bit more depth.

Overall, an excellent app.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comic Book Fun, 31 May 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Huge fun with loads of tongue in cheek violence and just a smidgeon of smut giving a nod to Carry On. It's pure entertainment all the way through and one well worth a couple of hours of your time.

The one thing that does grate just a tad is the need to add into this a young lady as one of the prospective Kingsmen. It's not an 'anti' thing, it's just that her role is pointless and adds nothing to the film. In fact if anything when she is on screen it's more like a childs film - which it most certainly isn't.

Fortunately it's a small niggle because she's not on screen very often. There are of course plenty of plot holes, but it doesn't really matter given the style and drive of the movie which is generally comic book OTT.

Firth hams it up beautifully and Michael Cain plays .....Michael Cain.

Overall this is a great fun throwaway movie. It's not going to challenge anyone but it would be hard to not be entertained by it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Grandmothers Review, 28 May 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
A review from my wife who has tried this out on our grandson.

Assembly of the buggy from the box is fairly straight forward, although the instruction booklet is the standard 'picture' format with no written instruction. I always find it easier to Youtube the instructions and have an expert explain it to me rather than trying to wade my way through pages of pictures.

Once assembled the buggy feels very sturdy and solid and the wheels are puncture proof, which add weight, but means you are never faced with a puncture. The buggy itself is actually quite wide, almost as wide as a double, but is very manoeuvrable with the swivel front wheel. The suspension is quite stiff although seems to provide quite a smooth ride for baby. I personally found the handlebar height quite high, even though it was on the lowest setting, but I am not very tall. The seat unit is well padded and comes with a 5 point adjustable harness.

Folding the buggy is a simple, albeit 2 handed process so not doable whilst holding baby, and whilst the seat unit is attached can only be partially folded. The seat unit has to be removed for it to be fully collapsed, and this is done by pulling a single metal bar below the seat to release it. The chassis can be made smaller by removing the front wheel, but a bit of a faff.

The seat unit itself is quite wide so plenty of room for baby width wise, but when the canopy is fitted there didn't seem to be a lot of headroom - as you will see in the picture my 10 month old grandson's head was practically touching the hood. The seat can be forward or rear facing, so is ideal for the different stages of a growing baby. There is a bumper bar, which is kind of like a set of motorbike handle bars, which is quite novel, but would make using a standard Cosytoes in the winter quite difficult. You would really have to use a split legged one.

The shopping basket is a reasonable size, but quite difficult to access unless the seat is forward facing and in an upright position - you could squeeze in small items, but certainly not your average sized changing bag.

The buggy comes complete with the adaptors for the accompanying car seat and carry-cot, but as these were not included I can't comment on their suitability.

Overall a well made pushchair that no doubt would serve well for what is now in the day of £1000+ units actually reasonable value for money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Slick Thriller, 24 May 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I note that there are some who didn't rate this highly but I'm slightly bemused by that. This is a superior thriller with plenty of action and Olga Kurylenko who has the looks and the legs to stop a train dead. The sight of her in a short dress is enough to justify the cost alone.

Why not five stars? Pierce Brosnan. He is a great actor but this role demanded an actor who looked a bit more gravelly. Pierce Brosnan looks too debonair and smooth even in his 60's. And no matter what, he was in Mamma Mia thus removing any chance of playing the tough guy roles ever again.

This film is well acted, has a good story and the production is slick. It does not rely on CGI or outlandish fighting (much) and is in many ways a more old school style spy-action thriller in the mode of Alistair McLean books. Chances are that if you are in your 40's or older this will be a film that will really appeal.

Classic Alistair MacLean stuff and a bit of a nostalgia trip if I'm honest. When I was younger MacLean was the man to go to for thrillers and he certainly was good at writing them.

Now, this is one of his best ones - but actually not quite as good as the film which is an utter classic. What I do note with the passing of years and a more jaded eye is that MacLean either does not do much in the way of research or does not let material facts get in the way of a good story. Given that today most authors who write in this genre - the better ones that is - do a fair bit of checking to make sure that facts are correct, reading a book where they don't seem important is slightly jarring.

Overall though a great military romp that's fast paced well written.
