This author takes you by the hand and introduces you to a myriad of very different characters from all walks of life, each with their own tribulations and how they deal with them. I loved the way he describes allotment life with its' own ups and downs as well as the personal touch of each of the characters. I found myself totally immersed in this amazing fist novel. I will certainly read this again just to make sure I didn't miss anything the first time round. I will be waiting for his next story. A wonderful book that I didn't want to end.

5.0 out of 5 stars A really good and fun read, 15 May 2013

A thoroughly good read from start to finish. The characters are believable and the story line is as fantastic as the book itself. A fun book and a good giggle most of the way and also, it just goes to show that it's never too late to change. Highly recommended

Why would anyone resort to taking someone else's intellectual property and pretend that is their own? The original author Ian Kane, to whom you show such utter disregard and disrespect, actually speaks and writes English. How can you get away with this? Well it seems you won't as you have been caught out!!!!

Far too explicit for my liking and the whole book seemed to centre around people getting "laid". Not my idea of a fun book at all

5.0 out of 5 stars A humorous lesson in camping and travelling - such fun, 1 Mar 2013

From beginning to end, the book grabs you and takes you on a journey only but the brave or foolhardy take. One man and his tent and backpack go on a mid-life adventure that in some instances becomes a crisis. From enduring bathtub races, and rabbit show jumping, meeting fantastically amusing people through to the steadily declining state of his tent, Chris Lown takes us on the holiday of a lifetime. I loved the summaries of the beer, cheese and tent status at the end of each chapter as well as the breathtaking descriptions of all of the places he visits. It was refreshing to read a book that treated the English language with respect and had me grabbing the dictionary a few times!!! Overall, a fantastically funny read, informative and most of all unputdownable (is that a word?)I look forward to another book from Chris Lown - camper extraordinaire!!!!

Thoroughly enjoyed this wonderfully amusing tale of a move most people would shy away from. Giving up everything they became used to and moving across the waters to the most beautiful yet mysterious and foreign land, finds the author and her hubby looking for a place to buy and fix up. From then on, each day has it's own story to tell and Victoria Twead does this so well. The characters come alive and the descriptions of the scenery and the way of live in this little village make you feel as if you are right there. The words and stories are like tickling sticks and guaranteed to have you chuckling and in some cases, laughing out loud! A great read with the added bonus of some delicious looking recipes at the end. What's not to like? Off to read the second installment and I know I will not be disappointed.

I found this book a great escape as it was highly amusing and the characters were so well described, one could picture them in front of you. Real tongue in cheek and an absolute hoot. Fantastic read

A fascinating read of celebrities, some of whom are sadly no longer with us, but also those that still are. Brings them to life and when reading about their exploits and thoughts, I felt as if I was there listening in on a conversation. Very well written and documented. A book you can put down and pick up without missing a beat! Thoroughly enjoyable.
