5.0 out of 5 stars Unique typing experience, solid keyboard., 23 Oct 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Having owned both the Matias Mac keyboard i wanted something a bit less clicky. Its a bit weird experience, especially after the Matias keyboard, or even after a Cherry Red/Brown ones i tried. Its closer in sound to a normal keyboard, than a mechanical, as there is almost no tactile noise (keycaps hitting the bottom and back), and the feedback is even less pronounced than on a Cherry Red, its still have a mechanical feeling. Cannot really compare to any of the mechanical ones i tried, the experience is quite unique (Matias built their own switches for this keyboard) Reminded me the old Amiga keyboards (which had springs) but it requires a bit more actuation force.

If i would have to sum it up in one sentence : its like a cherry red, but with even less noise (keycaps hitting the padded bottom is the sound it makes, but it even that can be minimized if the keys are not depressed fully)

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but the slot layout lets the board down., 13 Oct 2014
Very nice board, lots of features. Unfortunately its difficult to recommend if you use in SLI and want to have any other card. slot1 and 4 are x16 slots, and when 4 is populated with a graphics card, it blocks the x1 slot (no audio card goes there), leaving only slot 3 the only usable without compromising the bandwith (slot1 is shared with 2 and 4 is shared with the bottom slot). Unfortunately slot3 is disabled if you want to use the M2 port, which is quite good for storage (fast pcie). So two way sli with 2x16 is out of the question if you want to use an audio card. Way to expensive to have issues like this.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice sound, mixed feelings about the experience, marred with horrible drivers., 18 Jun 2014
After having some issues with a Creative ZXR (The infamous channel swapping bug with PCIe PLX chips), i decided to try this. Most people raving about how much better the drivers are.

The card come in a flashy package (typical of Asus), the Creative ZXR is more solidly built, but the STX uses the exact same DAC, i was not expecting much difference. But in terms of drivers, the first message i got is "Choose not to restart the computer, some functions may cause no effect, please restart the computer later". They obviously speak a different English than i am used to, but heck, this is just a warning message. So just rebooted. After i tried to play some music, its not bad, but its definitely flatter than the ZXR. Much flatter (and disabled all effects on the ZXR). Well see how can i tweak these, but lets move on the next item. There is no 5.1 surround over analog speakers. Nada. None. There is only one configuration for 5.1 is with side speakers, there is no way to get 5.1 with the classic 2 front, 2 back, 1 center, 1 subwoofer. This card only does 5.1 with two side speakers, only 7.1 allows me to use rear speakers.

The drivers are a joke compared to Creative's. This is what most reviews praised, but after the ZXR its like going back to the stone age. It looks like a Windows 3.1 application, miniature icons, no settings, apart from the stock CMedia options (this card is powered by an archaic cmedia chip)

- Its not recommened for gaming (i am sure they could improve it with drivers, but if the Xonar Phoebus is any indication, it probably wont)
- 5.1 speaker support is flaky (i could get it to work in 7.1, but then i lose the output from side speakers)
- I dont like the sound of the card - something is not right the way it reproduces low frequency sounds)
- Games.... Well, my experience with this card so far only proved that it was not designed for such purpose. And since the card sounds weird in low frequency, explosions sound weird.
- Movies : this is where the card is actually shows some promise.
- Music : flat sound, and it wont pick up the number of channels from the media stream, must be manually selected for the entire system. Missing the Creative feature where it can upmix per application. This is just a sign of primitive drivers.

In essence, if you would use this card is to listen to music, and don't play games, get this one (headphone output is nice). Its a bit pricey for that. If you think that Creative drivers are the worst, get this card, and you will appreciate them much more. After 2 days with card, I am not convinced that it worth's its price. The drivers let it down. Its performs well on basic scenarios. Anything more complex (listen to a mp3 while playing a game) , and you will run into its limitations.

Update 18/10/2014:
* Some games crashes on new games/game restarts, and if this happens the card outputs static noise, and reboot required to clean it up.
* No driver updates since release. 6 months by now.
* Reduced to two stars - support is abysmal. (3 stars = average product).

3.0 out of 5 stars Its not bad, but this is a short story, not a book., 16 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Some people here criticize the writing, while store is a bit devoid of conflict, and the characters were a bit juvenile, its not all bad. If i would have read this story in an anthology of short stories of promising (or new) Sci-Fi authors, my opinion would be that its not too bad, not the most original, but still novel idea, good read - the good sort of average. Unfortunately, it is sold as a book. And for that, its very short (15 mins read for me). Considering the price, its acceptable, but i don't really want have 10 titles on my kindle just to read one book - there are better ones out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Its even better than the predecessor., 29 Mar 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I got this monitor to increase my desktop workspace in addition to my NEC PA301W, partly because the two are visually indistinguishable apart from the sticker, and the my experience with the PA301 was nothing sort of stellar. Could not praise enough. I tried a Dell UP3214Q to size how it would work for me, and although the resolution is impressive (somewhat higher pixel density than this), the image quality, uniformity and accuracy does not came close to the 301. Ah, and options.... Configurability options are just great.
The 302 keeps everything that was great in the 301, but the panel now has an LED backlight. I think it improved it a bit, especially on contrast, and power usage is significantly down which are both good things, but the monitor worth its price for the screen itself. I think an average user will find this monitor a bit complex to operate (most does not make sense) and expensive, and bit on the heavy side (its very well built, massive, about 15kgs). I also impressed with the (passive cooling) the monitor is noticably runs cooler than any other monitor i've tried (Dell Up3214Q, Dell 2711, 27" Apple cinema) - NEC did go to the extremes to provide a stable workhorse with no uniformity issues (at this price - its not perfect, but to get something better you will have to spend more). There is a SpectraView version of this monitor, which comes with tools to calibrate it.

One oddity is that the 302 by default is configured to a different colourspace than the 301, which suprised me (but it only took one change in the OSD to fix it)

5.0 out of 5 stars Its great, if you know why you are getting it., 23 Mar 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
My primary reason for getting it to have a cheap android development platform with NVIDIA hardware, and as a test environment for a resource limited console game project. Its not bad for the price, although the controller could use some improvement. There are now Tegra4 based microconsoles with better gamepads, but these cost much more. For this price, its a nice little toy. Mind you, this does not meant to compete with the big consoles.

5.0 out of 5 stars Its one of the best 30" displays on the market., 23 Mar 2014
I have been using this monitor for almost a year now, at its absolutely marvelous. Great uniformity, cool (the cooling is quite sophisticated - the size of the monitor can be attributed to the passive cooling) and has great image controls. It might not be the best in terms of features, but the solidity makes it a great workhorse - solid and reliable.

My only complaint could be that due to the weight of the monitor i could not find a suitable VESA stand for it. Even my Ergotron MX set to the most stiff springs still unable to hold the monitor without bending overnight. Its almost 15Kgs without the stand! I guess i'll have to live with that, as this monitor is going to stay on my desk for a while... :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Great case, 23 Mar 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Cannot complain about case, its finish is perfect, the unusual layout is very effective in keeping things cool, and there is enough space in the bottom to house a 560 radiator block (removing the 3.5" drive bays, of course). One thing that lets the case down a bit its the quality of the interior cabling - the power button had to be resoldered after 7 months as the solder joints just fell off, and the middle 180mm fans are not easily replaceable (the fan cables are hardwired) - but nothing too bad for an enthusiast whom this case is designed for.

Its a very nice finish and some pockets where you can store some accessories. Its design is probably more on the "business style", though.
