1.0 out of 5 stars not tested... lots of errors, 23 Jun. 2010
I COMPLETELY agree with MW's earlier review. TONS of errors and omissions in the recipes. This book was obviously not tested or even edited by a food editor who would recognise recipe errors. I expected more from Phaidon honestly. Seems like a book that was thrown together, without a recipe tester, recipe writer, or a proper food editor. It even lacks photographic continuity. Some photos are great, while others definitely lack in quality. Did they just have all of the chef's send in their own photography and recipes and publish them without testing or real editing? The whole book is nice, but seems like a marketing ploy. So many of these "top chef" compilations are done so poorly...

4.0 out of 5 stars bible, but not all recipes work, 8 May 2010
This is pretty much the bible for thai cooking. I have made a few things out of here, but have had to tinker quite a bit to get things right. A sweet chilli sauce, came out like glue with the specified quantities of sugar, but just a little adjusting was required to make it better. I had to throw the first batch out completely. But, other recipes were fine. You definitely need to know how to cook already with this book and have a basic foundation of thai ingredients. In all though, a beautiful book. I like the soft puffy cover. I will use as a reference for all of my thai cooking.

4.0 out of 5 stars coffee table book, 3 May 2010
This book will be joining my other too gorgeous and too hard to cook from books on my coffee table. I can't even lift it up with one hand. Fun book to flip through. Cook from it? nah! It's just eye candy. Not that practical... but, neither is cooking with your hoover, poaching in a jacuzzi, or most of the other stuff that heston does. But it is fun.

4.0 out of 5 stars lots of recipes...., 3 May 2010
This review is from: Cookies Unlimited (Hardcover)
A good cookie book overall. I made the espresso brownies-- turned out a bit too cakey for my liking. But, can easily tweek the recipe to make more fudgy-- it is a personal preference. Lots of international recipes as well. cookies that I have never heard, which is always a fun surprise.

2.0 out of 5 stars random compilation, 3 May 2010
This book seems like it was thrown together without much thought to the book as a whole. The recipes don't read the same the whole way through and just a first glance I can tell that the recipes were not tested... merely cut down to "serve 6" or "serve 4". There are so nice photos though, and it is cool to get a glimpse into what these chefs have on the menu at their restaurants, but the book seems choppy as a whole and does not flow nicely. It seems like just a slightly rushed compilation without coherency or unity. Looks like the publisher just wanted to publish a book... asked a bunch of British chefs to submit photos and recipes and put them together in a without testing, editing, putting any thought into bringing the book together as a whole. On the plus side, there are some great chefs in this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars works very well, 3 May 2010
This spiral cutter is really cheap compared to the Japanese ones and works just as well. There are 3 different blades and it is very easy to clean. Blades are very sharp so clean carefully. There are suction cups on the bottom of each leg to hold the unit in place. It looks cute too. I am very happy with this purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars eye candy... beautiful... coffee table book, 3 May 2010
This review is from: Alinea (Hardcover)
This book is for the professional chef. It is a gorgeous tome of nearly impossible recipes for the home cook. I do love looking and reading it though and cannot wait to eat there. Grant is a true inspiration. A wonder of a restaurant, a wonderful book, and a fantastic chef. The book physically is big and heavy and impressive. Perfect for the coffee table to look through like a large art book.

I have cooked 2 dinners from this book thus far, and the recipes are amazing. Not too hard either, little chef touches are fun and make the dishes really pretty. Delicious and well worth the lean price tag. 80 recipes from Jason Atherton... a bargain. beautiful photography as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars informative, entertaining and beautiful, 27 Mar. 2010
This review is from: Gizzi's Kitchen Magic (Hardcover)
I was given this book as a gift by a good friend who knows that I love cookbooks. I did not really know a lot about Gizzi before, so I did not have any idea of what I would find inside. I was pleasantly surprised... this is a very well thought out book with fantastic photography, well written (and easy to follow) interesting recipes. Gizzi does have a bit of magic! A welcomed addition to my cookbook collection -- and to anyone's. Fantastic!
