Dachau to Dingle: A Toxteth Childhood
Dachau to Dingle: A Toxteth Childhood
Price: £1.97

3.0 out of 5 stars But I totally enjoyed reading it, 9 Dec 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The book needs to be proofread as the spelling is dodgy and sometimes the author writes one word for an other. But I totally enjoyed reading it. The story is well told, not all believable, but it is a novel not a history book. A really good read.

4.0 out of 5 stars The gel case is great and well fitting, 18 Aug 2014

The gel case is great and well fitting, the touch screen stylus seems to lose its "touch" after a while and the screen protector was a nightmare to fix, never quite managed it. Eventually I took it off. However, the main thing being the case, I thought it was a good buy.

3.0 out of 5 stars to take with a serious pinch of salt!, 18 Aug 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Very annoying that I could not put it down as I was very irritated by characters that were mere types rather than people, situations that verged on ridiculous, and a view of history that was rather simplistic and cliché. Also shocked that in a very long book about the second World War, and with characters that turn up at every major events of the period, there is just ONE sentence evoking the existence of extermination camps - and even so, very vaguely- so, Sorry Mr Follett, can do better.

5.0 out of 5 stars A short book to be treasured, 18 Aug 2014

Sandy Tolan does not offer a solution, but then who does? But his book sees the conflict from two points of view (I was tempted to say both, as if there were only two!) You can guess where his heart leans towards, but there is no such thing as objectivity. the point is that his characters are humans, well meaning and sincere. What a nice change from the usual sloganising, posturing and reconstructed History that is the way this conflict is regularly dealt with! A short book to be treasured.

4.0 out of 5 stars I loved reading the book, 6 Aug 2014

I loved reading the book. I hate teenage characters in novels because they are so untrue, but JK Rawlin' s ones were so genuine. I thought I had taught them in my classes only last week! Some of the adults were a little bit less convincing but amusing or sad, they were still great to get to know. JKR also manages to grip you to the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Where from there?, 22 Feb 2014

A very genuine and thorough look at Israel situation. It has no blind spot whatsoever. Ari Shavit sees the situation from everyone's point of view and does not possess rose tinted glasses. What Ari Shavit does not offer is a solution. In a sense, it flows from his ability to see everyone's point of view and refusal to take side. If every one is right or at least has a strong claim to righteousness then no-one's right. And where is the compromise? I have rarely read a book about Israel that was so clear headed. But where do we go from there?

5.0 out of 5 stars an other masterpiece from Khaled Hosseini, 22 Feb 2014

A very interesting book. Every character has got weight. I love the unusual structure of this novel: instead of being either concentrical or linear, this book grows new shoots in unexpected areas. such minor character suddenly develops a whole life of his (her) own when you thought they were only there to open the door, or bring the tea... it definitely keeps you on your toes.
