5.0 out of 5 stars Great Camera terrible user information, 12 Jun. 2009
The Canon PowerShot G10 Digital Camera has a mass of features and produces excellent images. I am sure that it can do more than I will ever discover but many of its features are obscured by the unhelpful way the was the camera manual is written and supplied.
The 32 page booklet supplied is only adequate if you want little more than to put in the battery and shoot in auto mode. For those wanting more information a CD is supplied containing a 291 page manual, which I found would not answer my questions about transferring RAW images, and which when printed came out as small pages in the middle of A4 sheets. What is needed is a manual that will guide users through the camera features not this mass of information structured in a way that only Canon technicians could find logical.
All this would have been acceptable if the Canon website had provided interactive tuition for users. It does not.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Book that awoke the waterways, 8 Mar. 2003
This review is from: Narrow Boat (Hardcover)
When Tom Rolt finished this book in 1940 he little realised that his story of setting up home on an old working narrowboat and travelling around the canals of England and Wales would be the spark that rekindled interest in the waterways. He had little hope that it would even be published after rejection of the manuscript by dozens of publishers. However, when it was published in 1944 it unexpectedly seemed to strike a chord with the public. Rolt received many letters agreeing with his views and a suggestion for a campaign to save the canals that lead to the founding of the Inland Waterways Association and a battle to stop the clousure of the waterways system. Still a great read that recaptures the spirt of those times.

5.0 out of 5 stars Getting started on the Waterways, 8 Mar. 2003
This little book tells the newcomer to the UK's rivers and canals all they need to know about the waterways and the boats they are likely to encounter. I cannot think of a better book for those about to get to grips with the practicalities of inland boating.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality Canal Coverage, 8 Mar. 2003
If your looking for a good introduction to Britain's canals this is the book for you. It concentrates on nine areas covering England, Wales and Scotland from Wiltshire in the south to the Caledonian Canal through Lock Ness and the Great Glen of Scotland. Excellent photographs by Ian Burgum, reproduced here to a high standard, are accompanied by text from a canal expert Paul Atterbury. Paul's expertise is not confinded to waterways and he frequently appears in the Antiques Roadshow on TV. By picking a variety of canals from around the UK this book gives a real flavour of our historic navgations as they are today. If you thought the introduction by Timothy West and Prunella Scales was going to be just a few words of celebrity endorsement you will be delighted to find that it is written from the heart by two enthusiastic boaters.
