A real page-turner about trying to find love in the face of unthinkable challenges. The author gives a modern, original, and darker take on the theme of star-crossed lovers, and despite the occasional violent and heartbreaking subject matter, still manages to bring plenty of lightness, humor, and heartwarming moments - plus a fair dose of sex. The characters are compelling - you'll love some and you'll hate some - and both kinds keep you flipping the pages. Highly recommended.

This review is from: The Last of the Heroes (Paperback)
An amazing and moving story of family and societal roles in small town Ireland cleverly disguised as a murder mystery.

A recently discovered unidentified decapitated body sets off the rumor mill thirsty for any new gossip in Glenlatin. Caught in the midst is the protagonist who becomes the main suspect due to the disappearance years ago of his pregnant girlfriend.

The result is an unexpectedly heartwarming tale of a man struggling for an identification of his own after living in the shadows of Glenlatin's most famous residents, his father and grandfather - the original Hero. His heritage draws the support of half of the town, while the other half jealously wishes to see him fall.

Keane adeptly handles the delicate weaving of the present controversy with the past history that sets the scene. More importantly, the story is littered with hilarious and colorful moments that are so uniquely Irish yet universally appreciated.

Be ready to finish this book once you start it as it is very tough to put down. A true accomplishment.
