5.0 out of 5 stars Salumi, 28 Dec 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Great book with excellent 'how to' instructions. Also the section on nitrate/nitrites and why these are needed and why makes a potentially confusing and dangerous subject easy to comprehend.

Highly recommended if you want to make salumi/salamis at home

Hix Oyster & Chop House
Hix Oyster & Chop House
by Mark Hix
Edition: Hardcover
Price: 20.00

5.0 out of 5 stars Hix Oyster and Chop House, 8 July 2011
Great book. Mark is less known than some of his contemporaries such as Gordon and Marco, etc but he's just as seriously talented. This book allows him to generously share his own ideas and those of his other top chefs. I was particularly interested in his smoked salmon ideas being the owner of a Bradley smoker just like Mark. Also he is very into using up every last part of his ingredients so deep fried broad bean shells and deep fried scallop skirts will appeal to those who value frugality.

An excellent book, well worth the money for some great ideas!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gourmet food for a fiver, 12 April 2011
Great little book from a seriously talented chef but written and photographed in a beautifully simple way. I've already tried some of the recipes and they've all worked out fantastically.

Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent little book, 7 Oct 2010
This is a great little book and far exceeded my expectations. All sorts of recipes to try out with excellent background on the science behind breadmaking. It was great also to have a warning explaining that the first few loaves might not be great.

This was true to a degree but the book also has a 'diagnostic' section which helps explain why things might not have gone to plan which helps with the next batch. My bread tasted great but was a little flat, the pizza dough though was amazing. Best pizza I've ever tasted and we eat Italian food out a lot.

Anyway to summarise an excellent little book, well worth the money. I'd highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ideal beginners manual!, 17 Jun 2010
This is a great book which I consider an ideal source of practical advice for anyone new to taking their kayak out for the first few times.

There isn't much Derek doesn't know about kayaking and this book is full of sensible help starting from advice as to the best way to transport your kayak through to rigging it out and of course the essential safety advice both regarding clothing, practice, navigation and how to deal/react in emergencies.

An essential book for any novice to medium experienced user and is highly recommnended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great kayaking book!, 17 Jun 2010
This is a great book for anyone fortunate to live along this coastline or indeed anyone visiting or holidaying here.

It's packed with useful information and although I have lived in Dorset near it's coastline for 25 years I learnt loads of new facts and suggestions for trips out etc. I've never camped with my kayak along the beach but Mark covers this too and I most admit I really fancy doing this now.

Highly recommended even if you don't do the suggested trips as all offer alternative landing/beaching points if you can't do the full trips.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shredder, 10 Oct 2009
Excellent shredder. I was recommended a Fellowes as my parents have a cheaper and smaller version. After researching various options via the Which magazine, this one came out very well. Most outlets didn't have it in stock however I was lucky to find it on Amazon.

It's a real tough cookie easily coping with everything we shred in my home/office enviroment. Credit cards and staples all disappear in seconds.

A highly recommneded bit of kit!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent microwave, 10 Oct 2009
Freat little machine. It's really good at defrosting without cooking and pre cooking baked potatoes without making the skins break down. A far superior product to the Tesco grill microwave we had before. Highly recommended if you are after a quality machine for a comapct space.
