5.0 out of 5 stars I loved this book, 20 July 2004
This review is from: In a Good Light (Hardcover)
What I really appreciate in Clare Chambers's writing is the way she reflects the real world. She's completely gripping without any recourse to the usual run of thriller - type tricks. The people in her books are alive, intelligent, recognisable, and so you really care about what happens to them. From the opening page you have that lovely feeling of being in completely safe hands; you're going to be told a terrific story by someone who really knows how. And she's funny, I laughed out loud several times during the whole rainy day in Cornwall that I spent completely immersed in this marvellous novel. Should be on every book group's list.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rolling Stones meet the Larkins, 11 Jun. 2004
This review is from: Fabulous Time (Paperback)
This is an ideal holiday read, intelligent, funny, and original. It's a satisfying culture - clash story, as two aspects of the Sixties - the sex and drugs and rock scene, and contemporary village life reminiscent of an HE Bates novel, collide, with results at once unexpected, tragic, and, at the very end, touchingly hopeful. Should be in every flight - bag.

5.0 out of 5 stars A marvelous novel, 5 April 2004
This review is from: A Dry Spell (Paperback)
I couldn't put this book down and felt sorry when I finished it, because the characters were so real and alive.I cared very much about what happened to them. Particularly Erica. I have now read all Clare Chambers' books and look forward to the new one in July
