5.0 out of 5 stars Don't miss this gem!, 25 Oct 2014
I really enjoyed the first in this series, so I was pleased to learn that Ms Bibby has written another. She is a splendid writer! The evocation of period and the attention to detail is wonderful. I strongly urge those who enjoy well crafted historical fiction to treat themselves... to my mind, Ms Bibby knocks spots off the competition in this field. She has a delightful writing style and the concept is original and engaging. I wish all offerings in the kindle store were as good as this, but then, we'd be spoiled for choice!

Thank you Miriam!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good, and escapes the 'bodice-ripper' taint!, 11 Jun 2014
This review is from: The Bride Gift (Kindle Edition)
I thought this was a very good debut, or I so I assume. It is a reasonable unused period, and interesting subject matter. The style is good, and the story and characters well written, and plotted. If you like romances, this is quite a lot above the generality of the genre and deserves to do well. I wish Ms Hegger well, and I am certain her writing career will develop. I would be intrigued to see what she would do with a serious 'Historical'. I think she truly has the skill for it!

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful! Just truly dreadful, and not in the sense that its author hoped., 23 Feb 2014

This serves as a justification for the former gatekeepers of publishing, the agents and editors, who would ensure that the ART of writing was preserved and that tripe like this abominably over written and laughable pastiche (unintentional) of the gothic stories of M R James and co. were not inflicted on the reading public. Oh, Amazon, what have you done -- in making it possible for every uneducated dimwit to 'publish' their hubristic efforts. I should have known better than to purchase this in the first place, but the sheer number of moronic numpties who gave this positive ratings overruled my better judgement.

1.0 out of 5 stars Oh dear, what a load of dreadful rubbish., 8 Jan 2014
If you enjoy good writing on any level, do not touch this steaming heap with a barge pole. This woman considers that she writes like Jane Austen. Choke. Jane Austen must be spinning in her grave. I doubt if this 'writer' has actually read Austen. Unwise and unbelievably arrogant to compare one's self to one of the greatest English classical novelists. A bit like volunteering as a target at the coconut shy. Petronila writes like Austen as my dog writes like Hemmingway, but with less style. For your information, Miss Ungureanu, Austen is wittily, deftly and profoundly aware of the social context of her world. She is not pompous, turgid, boring and loquacious. Well, you did really stick your head over the parapet!

Whether or not you are a musical type, (I, for instance, have the musicality of a tone-deaf stoat), if you like 'laugh out loud funny', you will love this book. Truly.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dreadful. Dreadful. Dreadful. Oh, did I mention? Dreadful., 30 Oct 2013

Dreadful. This 'thing' and Susan Hill's masterpiece should not appear under the same title. It is trite, and very badly written, and I was unable to continue after the first few chapters. If you are expecting a book that resonates with Ms Hill's mastery of the Victorian Gothic, forget it. Dreadful, dreadful, dreadful. Giving it the obligatory one star irritated the hell out of me. Minus 10 stars from me.

Please, do not be put off by the negative reviews. This is a truly beautiful book, superbly written. Some reviewers here seemed confused by the rich tapestry of time, place and character, which for me made it so engaging. It should not be judged or compared to other, more conventional, (straight histfic) works. Emma has written something fresh and delightful. Perhaps those who could not follow should stick to the likes of Phillipa Gregory. This soars above such mundane fodder.

5.0 out of 5 stars Helen does irt again., 22 May 2013
Love all Helen's work, and this is superb. Gives real substance to the Arthurian Legend. I loved the way she makes familiar, and often clichéd, protagonists real and deep. Love series. Do read.
