5.0 out of 5 stars SoCal Rivers rawk, 26 Aug. 2002
This review is from: Wasted & Ready (Audio CD)
BK's first proper single release from long player "Sha Sha" sees Ben turning up the slacker rock and giving Weezer something to worry about. Title tack "Wasted & ready" evolves into a perfect moment in SoCal rock, combining lyrics about spaghetti and BKs Texan slow drawl. Backed by rare Kweller songs "I dont know why" and "Problems" BK shows his varied musical influences. When playing live he dances like Elvis. Thats all I need say.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sure would, 26 Aug. 2002
This review is from: Grandpaw Would (Audio CD)
Ben's debut solo offering, a mix of austrailian alt.country and young/jaded tales of ealry love and bondi. Features a guest spot from Liz Phair on stand out track "Pop queen". Part acoustic and part band, Ben represents a young songwriter who has energy and definate passion for his music. Check out his earlier band "Noise Addict" and his more recent release "Breathing Tornadoes" for more of the same.

5.0 out of 5 stars Neat-o, 26 Aug. 2002
This review is from: Nothing Much Happens (Audio CD)
Alt.country kid Ben Lee marries Claire Danes and comes back with an excelent slice of a pie I call "sugar synth pop". Lee's early
love for Evan Dando (see his earlier band Noise Addict's "I wish I was him" from the "Young and jaded" ep) has now been mixed with his love for keyboards (Ben was also on a recent Pet Shop Boys tribute cd). The last release on the Beastie Boys Grand Royal record label (rip) has Ben reaching out and transforming his earlier sound. Also features the classic 1995 "Song 4 You". Good things.

5.0 out of 5 stars Final Lheads project see dando reaching Americana perfection, 24 Aug. 2002
This review is from: Car Button Cloth (Audio CD)
His songs are induced by jaded tales of country heartbreak, reen leaves and finishing your Paella. Assisted by regular contributors Eugene Kelley (Vaselines) and Tom Morgan (of Australian band Smudge) Dando has constructed such a well varied yet cohesive slab of 13 song precision. Throughout "Car Button Cloth" Dando displays the trademark Lemonheads melody, pedal steel, light rock and vocal whispers. Prime cuts include single "If I could talk I'd tell you", "Tenderfoot", "The outdoor type" and "Hospital". Cant wait for that solo album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Furious action on the attack, 24 Aug. 2002
This review is from: Mono (Audio CD)
LA 5 piece Icarus Line are heading for trouble, you can just feel it. The first 5 tracks on their Cargo/Sweet Nothing debut are played with such awesome intensity that reminds you of the mixtape Satan made for your Christmas party. Mono has been described as Stooges influenced, California hating, fast paced hardcore. However is also broken up by longer, more spacey, soft to hard explosions. Although they may resemble the Hives with
their black shirt/red tie attire they sure aint the new Monkeys. Get it before your Mom bans you from doing so.

5.0 out of 5 stars exclamation point, 16 Jun. 2002
This review is from: United By Fate (Audio CD)
rival schools rock in a hardcore way whilst still staying all poisitive on us. "travel by telephone" and (first single) "used for glue" are very representive of the album: a feast of straight get up kids rock. fans of walters ex band quicksand will also be happy to hear tracks like the detuned "holding sand" which still has that 666 thing going on. if you like this also check out their "rival schools united by onelinedrawing" ep which was an early release and collaboration with that onelinedrawing kid who is big on the web. anyway...united by fate is bomb. exclamation point.
