Variable picutre quality, 28 Nov 2009
A couple of the earlier episodes in this set are not really up to scratch for commercial release in my view especially 'Angels' due to grainy picture and less than dynamic sound. Why can't a lot more of the episodes from the beginning of the Alex Norton 'Burke' era be released on DVD? No issue with the storylines of the six long episodes in this set though. As normal they are brilliant, as is the acting. A bargain price too!

Does what it says on the 'tin', 29 Oct 2009
Brilliant one disc compilation of GP and the Rumour from their days on Vertigo Records (and Mercury in the States, but that's another story!). Beautifully mastered and it really rocks. How this outfit never achieved success to the degree of Springsteen and the E Sreet Band defeats logic. These guys were the real McCoy in their day. 100% pukka. A uniquely British rock/blues sound. No need for snooty put downs like 'they were only a glorified pub rock band'. Utter balderdash. They were talented beyond the appreciation of those in the music press who should have known better.

Nothing crucial is missing, 29 Oct 2009
As a brief 'one stop' summary of the Jacksons post Tamla era this compilation is absolutely magnificent. The tracks never sounded better. Obviously dedicated fans will want the original albums but hey! There's a recession and this single disc touches all the bases at a steal of a price.

The End in sight, 10 Oct 2009
I regret to say that this season 8 marks the coming of the end of Bergerac as a viable drama series. This series finds a new love interest from across the Channel and this leads to unfocused stories that keep cutting between Jersey and Jim's future location in the vineyards. Some of the individual episode stories give the impression of having been saved from the cutting room floor. Lack of previous regular actors add to the feeling of dispondency. The budgets were obviously cut to cover the cost of the French location shoots. I'm a massive Bergerac fan but found this series to be one too far. Much better that Jim had told Crozier to 'stuff the job' at the end of series 7 and then sailed off into the sunset. Unfortunately the commissioning of TV programmes doesn't quite work like that. 'Only Fools and Horses' being another example of the BBC wishing to squeeze the last frop of blood from their top series. Overall I would say that it was delightful to see Jim back once again but the poor writing and obvious cost cutting made this title a depressing and sometimes tedious experience. I take no joy form making this assessment.

Great but only for Garlic Obsessives, 17 Sep 2009
Beautifully photographed, inspirational recipes but for the excessive use of garlic. Not just a few cloves of the stuff but whole bulbs - many, many of them. Such food may be okay if living in the Sun whilst on holiday but in the UK they verge on the anti-social. Many of these authentic recipes should be avoided by those who work with the public or use public transport. That said, for garlic lovers this 2 DVD set is the ultimate in gastroporn. Buy it!

A lesson in middle aged cynicism! GREAT STUFF!, 17 Sep 2009
A thoroughly inspired series telling it exactly how it is. Middle aged grumps may seem like a boring and irritating subject but nothing could be further from the truth. Hilariously funny observations on life and the human condition makes this title essential viewing. The grump of your house will, like me, repeatedly say "Too right" again and again and again when listening to the pearls of wisdom delivered on this disc. The package also includes an extended Christmas episode that really echoes what we all secretly feel about the forced jollity of the season - whcih nowadays starts shortly after August Bank Holiday! Highly recommended.

Brilliant content. Superb price., 17 Sep 2009
How they price this CD title so low beggars belief. This disc really is the sort of thing for a multi-genration family gathering. Great music performed superbly. Get one for Christmas so that even if your guests are boring you won't be!

The Best from The best!, 10 Sep 2009
As a new convert to Hans' music I must say that this budget price selection is marvellous. Cheap enough to take a risk on if you're not sure. Recommended place to start if even slightly interested in the work of this genius!

Hans at his very best!, 30 Aug 2009
This album is great fun to listen to and is unbelievable value for money. Less than a price of a pint (up my way at least!) for an hour of magnificent music form the master of light orchestral music. It's brilliant!
