TRS Red Split Lentils 500 g (Pack of 10)
TRS Red Split Lentils 500 g (Pack of 10)
Price: £9.65

5.0 out of 5 stars Luscious lentils, 30 Aug. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
In my experience, having bought several different brands and quantities of red lentils, the quality varies very little from brand to brand. These TRS lentils are just as good as any others that I have come across, and quite possibly slightly better than some. On delivery, there was almost exactly two years until the best before date. There is no nutritional information on the bag, but this is easy to look up should you wish. The country of origin is Canada.

iNeibo Kitchen Silicone Pasta Server - With Strong Silicone Covering Head And Stay-cool Stainless Steel Handle
iNeibo Kitchen Silicone Pasta Server - With Strong Silicone Covering Head And Stay-cool Stainless Steel Handle
Offered by Keisound-UK
Price: £9.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Prime pasta server, 25 Aug. 2015
I own a number of these iNeibo kitchen utensils and they are mostly pretty good. This silicone pasta server has a nice, smooth stainless steel handle that is fairly seamlessly joined to the silicone head. The silicone seems a decent quality, although not the best I have ever come across. It is not entirely rigid, with a little bit of give and is apparently heat proof up to 425F (I have not tested it to its limit). The head of this utensil is about 9.5cm x 6.5cm at its longest and widest points. The metallic handle is about 23.5cm long, and features a hanging hook, which is a useful feature to help make most efficient use of storage space. The whole thing weighs around 79 grams. I much prefer non-metallic utensils like this one for most kitchen tasks, as they do not scratch your pans and cast iron casseroles. I can't find any fault with this pasta server at all and find it very useful indeed. It's certainly works as well as any other similar pasta server that I have come across. Buy Whole Foods Ground Almonds 500 g
Buy Whole Foods Ground Almonds 500 g

5.0 out of 5 stars Admirable almonds, 25 Aug. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I use a lot of ground almonds, so I was happy to take advantage of one of Amazon's Warehouse Deals to buy these almonds at a reduced price because they were approaching their best before date. Despite being only a month from the best before date, these ground almonds were of very good quality, comparing well to any other ground almonds I have bought that were much further removed from their best before date. The taste and texture was just as you would expect. Of course the added bonus with buying ground almonds is that you do not have to blanch, peel and grind up the almonds in a food processor. The downside is that you often get bits of skin in the ground almonds that you buy; these ones had no sign of any skin whatsoever, which is both unusual and impressive.

The nutritional information is exactly the same as depicted in the listing photographs, with a message on the label stating: "ALLERGENS: Cereal (including Gluten), Nuts (including Peanuts), Soya & Sesame". I assume this to mean that the almonds are prepared in an environment that handles the other foods that are listed. Unusually the particular batch of ground almonds that I received had the country of origin listed as U.S.A. / Spain, rather than just one single country.

cordon bleu cheese and savouries
cordon bleu cheese and savouries
by rosemary hume
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars Cheesy bliss, 25 Aug. 2015
Despite being first published in 1972, this cheese and savouries recipe book is still useful and relevant, with the added bonus of a lack of exotic ingredients being required. All of the weights are in pounds and ounces rather than grams and kilograms, which might take a moment for some people to get used to. The book doesn't bother with large, superfluous glossy photographs for every recipe, but does have photographs where necessary to highlight something that is not completely obvious; for example showing how to assemble a cheese loaf and how to prepare a cod's roe pâté. It is also small (approximately 14cm x 22cm) and concise, so it is quite easy to fit many books from the series onto a bookshelf. The layout is great, with effective use of bold text to highlight ingredients and recipe titles. Simpler recipes appear two, three or even four to a page. There are notes and basic recipes at the end of the book, including how to make various stocks, sauces and different types of pastry.

Chapters include: Types of cheese, Supper snacks, Entertaining with cheese, Sweet cheese dishes and Party savouries. There are many meat and fish dishes made with cheese, and plenty of recipes that you would expect such as a variety of soufflés and cheesecakes. There are simple things with a handful of ingredients that you can make in five minutes or much more elaborate things such as the cheese loaf that I have not found the time to attempt yet! There are many recipes contained within the book that I'd not heard of or considered before, so there will be plenty to satisfy most people in a book that I would recommend to any cheese lover.

Kuuk Vegetable Dicer Slicer

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a great time saver, 25 Aug. 2015

This review is from: Kuuk Vegetable Dicer Slicer
Chopping onions is a pastime that I don't enjoy at all, but is a necessary evil when cooking many different dishes. Therefore when offered the chance to try this vegetable cutter [I was provided with this product for free to review] , I was delighted to give it a go. Out of the box, the cutter looks good and is simple to use. You get three blades, two different dicing blades and a slicer blade. All of the blades are separate attachments, interchangeable, and are easily affixed to the main cutter. The bladed area of each attachment is 8cm x 8cm. The dicing blades have multiple blades running perpendicular to each other, which creates many small squares; 14 x 14 = 196 on one and 7 x 7 = 49 on the other. The sides of the smaller squares are just over 0.5cm long, and the sides of the larger squares just over 1.1cm long. The slicer has 13 blades running in one direction and 2 running perpendicular to these. You also receive a slightly bendable “brush” that resembles a comb, for cleaning the raised area of many square prisms that is used for pushing down on the item you are cutting. There are five circular supports on the base which prevent the cutter from moving around when you have it on your bench.

There is one key question for me when it comes to kitchen gadgets; is this device going to save me time and effort, making my life easier? The answer with regards to this Kuuk vegetable cutter is that it depends. Yes, it does cut onions pretty well when you've peeled them and cut them in half. You do need to apply a decent amount of force, but the result is good although the dicing blades do get a few pieces of onion sticking to them. I can also imagine myself dicing potatoes or using the slicer blade to cut peppers. The issue is that the time taken to assemble the cutter, and in particular to clean the blades afterwards, means that if you're only doing a small amount of dicing and/or cutting, then the overall time taken will be longer. Getting the blades absolutely free of all debris afterwards is not entirely straightforward even when using powerful running water. With onions, I think three is the magic number; if you're wanting to chop one or two onions then if you have reasonable knife skills you will be able to do it faster using just a knife and chopping board. Soft items like mushrooms, strawberries, kiwis, bananas and eggs (all of which are mentioned on the box) will be better chopped by hand unless you are chopping very large quantities or want them cut into extremely small pieces. None of the blades will cut garlic (also mentioned on the box) into sufficiently small pieces if you want it finely chopped, as you would in most situations.

I certainly couldn't wholeheartedly recommend this vegetable cutter. For me personally, it will sit gathering dust in a cupboard unless I need to dice a mountain of onions. The design and functionality is excellent but in a lot of ways it just seems like another superfluous kitchen gadget that most people won't really need.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good, 25 Aug. 2015
I have often found myself packing a suitcase and then trying to balance it on my bathroom scales while I somehow tried to see the reading on the scales. A device like this, while it may not see everyday use for me, is good to have to make sure you avoid paying excess baggage fees. There is not a great deal to comment on because the listing photographs are a very good illustration of the scale and the packaging has a very comprehensive set of instructions on the back, including on how to replace the battery. The display it must be noted is very clear and easy to read, with the digits being over 1cm tall. The weight can be measured both in kilograms and pounds, which should suit everyone. I'm not exactly sure why there is a thermometer built in, but then you just don't need to press the button to display the temperature if you don't want.

This scale is easy to use and effective. [I was provided with this product for free to review.]

5.0 out of 5 stars Befitting boxers, 25 Aug. 2015

You can make you own mind up about the message conveyed on these boxers, but from my point of view they are very comfortable and fit exactly as expected with regards to the size guide without being too tight. The quality is reasonable, and there hasn't been any deterioration after a wash or two. These boxers certainly provide better value for money than the more premium brands that you can pay a lot more for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Splendid speaker, 25 Aug. 2015
I have acquired a number of Bluetooth speakers over the past year or two, but none are better than this one. The first thing to notice is that the packaging is of a very good quality, certainly making this suitable as a gift should you so wish. The speaker comes in a good-looking white box, with the contents surrounded by some well-designed foam. Also immediately noticeable is the fact that the speaker is heavier than your average small Bluetooth speaker, at just over 210 grams. It feels very solid, which is probably a good thing as it is claimed to be waterproof, shockproof and dirtproof. I have not been deep sea diving with it, I have not violently thrown it around and I have not buried it in the soil, but the whole outer surface does seem well sealed against foreign bodies. The control buttons are part of the outer case, as you can see in the listing photographs, with no space for water or dirt to enter. These buttons are soft to the touch and easy to press, with the usual functions on offer for controlling volume, switching on/off, resetting and switching songs. Unusually, you also get an SD card reader. I personally don't have audio files on SD cards, but I'm sure some other people will appreciate this feature. Sadly I couldn't verify how well it works. There is also a hook on the top of the speaker, which gives you the option to suspend the speaker from some kind of cord, which could be useful if you're using it in the shower perhaps. Pairing with multiple Apple devices has been straightforward and quick on each occasion that I have attempted it. The instructions are concise but informative if you have any problems.

I must admit to not being the harshest judge when it comes to sound quality. This Redpepper Bluetooth speaker's sound quality compares well with other Bluetooth speakers that I have tried, but I was quite a late adopter when it comes to Bluetooth speakers so anything better than the sound from phone speakers usually keeps me happy. For me, the absolute key feature of any portable Bluetooth device is battery life. If the battery dies within an hour (for example), this would completely ruin a device for me regardless of the other features. The listing currently claims both 6 hour and 4-5 hour battery life. I have not timed it precisely, but I can certainly say that the battery lasted at least three hours and beyond on a single charge, which is good enough for me.

At the time of writing, the price for this speaker is higher than some other similar devices. You will need to decide if the extra robustness and features are worth the additional cost, but it is certainly a good quality speaker. [I was provided with this product for free to review.]

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful device, 25 Aug. 2015

This is the third such B22 to E27 adapter that I have purchased this year, after YKS Socket Light Bulb Lamp B22 to E27 Holder Adapter Plug Extender Lampholder and LAMP LIGHT SOCKET CONVERTER BAYONET B22-E27 SCREW. If you are contemplating which one to buy, then this skytronic one is at least as good as (and probably better than) the other two. It feels and looks well made, marginally better than the other two. The E27 bulb screws into the adapter easily as you would expect, doesn't rattle around and lights up when you flick the switch. There is no hint of any flickering. This adapter works, is reliable and doesn't look likely to fall apart any time soon. It is long, being about 6.5cm from end to end and weighs around 14 grams. For certain types of light socket, a longer adapter may be essential, although for me it's not an issue. Extremely good and would recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb sound, high level of comfort, 20 Aug. 2015
I have acquired a number of pairs of Bluetooth headphones over the past couple of years, and it is safe to say that these are the best ones that I have come across so far. [I was provided with this product for free to review.] For me, when it comes to headphones the most important thing is comfort, probably even more so than sound quality. I'm not sure if my ears are an unusual shape but the headphones where you have to place buds inside your ears just tend to fall out all of the time. Therefore the over-ear style of headphones that completely enclose your ears are the only ones I would ever use. However I have acquired some over-ear headphones that start to hurt after you've been wearing them for more than a few minutes. These Ausdom headphones are the best I have ever tried when it comes to comfort. The padding is soft and spongy and at no point does anything feel like it is starting to dig in to your ears, no matter how long you wear them. The headband is also nicely padded and never a source of discomfort. It helps that the headphones are fully adjustable, as not only does each ear pad rotate around the end of the headband as far as you'd ever need it to go, they also rotate back and forth a little. Weighing just over 200 grams, the headphones are more lightweight than some and certainly don't exert any real downward pressure when wearing. I would imagine that virtually everyone will be able to wear these comfortably.

Other inferior Bluetooth headphones can have very short battery life and therefore need to be charged regularly. I have not tested these Ausdom headphones to the full limit of the 18 hour audio playback / talk time claimed, but I can certainly verify that they do provide very significant use before needing to be charged. Bluetooth pairing is fairly straightforward, although you will probably need to refer to the instruction manual with regards to how long to hold down the power button to put these headphones into pairing mode and for more information on how to interpret the light next to the power button, which is red, blue or flashing depending on the situation. The headphones show up as "AUSDOM M04" on any Bluetooth compatible device. There is NFC capability, and a provided 3.5mm audio cable, but I have only ever used them with a Bluetooth connection.

The sound quality is as good as any comparable set of headphones, and you get the usual array of buttons on the bottom of each ear pad to control the volume, pause, skip to the next track and so on. I do find that there is a small amount of sound leakage if you have the volume high, but then as I never do it isn't a problem. If you travel on public transport and like your music loud, you may receive the occasional frowned expression from a fellow traveller. I also find that if I listen to music for an hour, I may get a couple of momentary crackles/flickers/bout of interference. Again, this is a trivial issue that doesn't bother me in the slightest but is worthy of a footnote at the end of this review. Overall, I think that these headphones are superb and I would wholeheartedly recommend them.
