5.0 out of 5 stars Nostalgia at it's best, 30 May 2014

I would thoroughly recommend this collection to anyone who remembers this little piece of TV history from the early 70s. As a testosterone-governed teenage boy I was insanely in love with Gillian Blake and the idyllic ambience of Follyfoot Farm and its rural setting. I even got myself a job on a riding stables in the country in an effort to emulate this wonderful series. Unfortunately there was no Dora. This Follyfoot Collection is all a trifle dated from today's perspective but is a wonderfully retro piece of nostalgia that had me falling in love all over again. Good stuff!

5.0 out of 5 stars Typical King, 30 April 2014

If you didn't know the author when you began reading Joyland , the style would give King away immediately. That is not to detract from his unique and easy reading prose that I have always found so hard to put down - whether the story is good or bad. I think I'd find his shopping list interesting such is his prowess with the written word. Joyland is another if those typical King books that grabs you from start to finish. An excellent read that I highly recommend.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too American, 24 Mar 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: 1960s Music Trivia (App)
As with most things you buy as an app - it's American! So most of the question aren't relevant to UK players. Eg. Lulu did NOT have a hit with To Sir With Love in the UK and the Jackson 5's first UK hit was in the 70s to highlight just two. Not for me I'm afraid.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must For Herbert Fans, 2 Nov 2013

A well researched and in-depth profile of Britain's foremost horror writer that has been updated to include intricate reviews of all his books from The Rats in 1974 to his final novel Ash in 2012. The biography encompasses his life and career and is very informative and gripping, right up to the moment of his tragic and untimely death in March 2013. A couple of typos in my kindle version (sought-after is spelled sort-after) but that's just me being picky and trying to find fault with a thoroughly entertaining read. Well recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, 27 Sep 2013

This is a well-researched and impartial account of a unique and enigmatic band that helped shape the 60s and beyond. The author has an obvious love for The Kinks and explores each of the members and peripherals without too much waffle, which I like in a good biography. It also draws on personal accounts from each member including Ray's 'X-Ray' and Dave's 'Kink' as well as interviews from other members' families and friends. The advantage of an outside biographer is lack of bias to any one person, as the aforementioned autobiographies obviously are. And it is a joy to read a biography from an English standpoint rather than one written by an American, say, who knows nothing of English places or customs. No more than I would read an American biography written by a Brit. A great read, well written.
