5.0 out of 5 stars For me his best ever, 29 Nov. 2013
This review is from: Hearts And Bones (Audio CD)
I bought the original mix CD of this album which I missed first time around. I recently rediscovered the genius that is Paul Simon and decided to buy this - its superb - the melodic invention, the sophistication of the arrangements, the mant subtle touches that you pick up on repeated listens.

The songs intrigue with Simon's thought provoking lyrics which have humour, sadness and an occasional touch of the surreal. Classic songs - Hearts & Bones, Train in the Distance, Rene Magritte, The Late Great Johhny Ace, and the wonderful humorous tease 'Song About the Moon'. There's only one weak spot - that's the opening track 'Allergies'it's nowhere near the standard of the rest - maybe that is why it was not so successful on its release?

This is a great album and repays repeated listening - I'm tempted now to listen to the remastered version and hear the bonus tracks - but its hard to see what could be done to improve this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent pedal, 29 Nov. 2013

This is a real quality product - I use it mainly on gigs where I take my AER acoustic amp - it enables me to put a Telecaster through and get pretty close to a valve amp sound - its easy to use,l well built, loud, has many usable variations, great overdrive, super reverb, brilliant tremolo - all told a great product - its very close to the classic amp that it models, close enough for me to highly recommend it

2.0 out of 5 stars Turgid read after a promising start, 29 Nov. 2013
This review is from: Dominion (Paperback)
This book started well enough but about a quarter of the way in it really sags. The characters and the dialogue are really wooden and tension and pace are non-existent - the character Frank is hardly believable and some of the dialogue involving him is almost childlike. All very disappointing after a bright opening - and to be truthful I got bored in the end I skipped passages to get to the end. Its all rather unfortunate as the book is obviously well researched and the situation presented is realistic. But somewhere along the way the author lost it. I reckon it needs a good sharp edit which might also correct three or four grammatical oddities that I spotted.

5.0 out of 5 stars Real rock 'n roll from one of the best ever, 3 Oct. 2013

As a band CCR have few rivals -capturing the real spirit that inhabits all the greats like Presley, Lewis, the Stones et al - but few have had such a high rate of really good songs. John Fogerty in particular, and the band, exhibit a powerhouse of energy - it almost jumps off the CD player - great

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellently argued apologetic, 30 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is well argued and much more gracious in its approach than the Dawkins' writings that it answering. Its quite hard going at times - the biological stuff and the mathematical stuff is difficult - that's not a fault - these things are tricky. In the end it leaves you to decide and faith does come into it. What comes out most clearly of all is that there is no justification whatsoever for the arrogant dogmatism of Dawkins and some others - in the what is unarguable is that atheism is like Christianity a matter of faith.

3.0 out of 5 stars So where was the joy?, 14 Nov. 2010
This review is from: Band Of Joy [Digipack] (Audio CD)
OK, I loved Raising Sand, and I have to say that the music on this album is very good. But when I watched the live show, at the Roundhouse where they performed the album and more, I was very disappointed by the total lack of joy that the muiscians displayed. Planty was fine as was Patti G, but the musicians looked as if they were simply there to do a job, serious, dour, utterly joyless and frankly a travesty of the spirit of Rock 'n' Roll.

So Robert - a quality album - but when you do a live show get some musicians who do not look and act is they just want to turn up play take the money and run.

Buddy Miller - great guitarist and producer - but seems to forget that its still the entertainment business.
