Ferguson's Gang - The Maidens behind the Masks

5.0 out of 5 stars These Are No Ice Maidens!, 12 Oct. 2013
What do the following have in common?

- A masked maiden performing a raid on National Trust offices (not to remove or steal artifacts, but to anonymously deposit a bag of silver)

- A mysterious Boo abandoned and later discovered in a street market (apparently, there was no room for the final 'k' on the front cover)

- An influential book entitled 'England And The Octopus'

- Public outings to watch the demolition of historic properties (that would now merit public outcry)

They are all facts linked together in this fascinating insight into a world long since departed, whose ancestry and the antics of a few wildly romantic women helped preserve many of the wonderful buildings and structures of yesteryear we take for granted today.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rural Affairs Rule!, 27 April 2013
The story has three main characters of Alicia, Matty and Chloe, which not only made you feel you understood the dynamics between the three friends but also gave very different perspectives on the issues they face in their lives. It was a good read with enough twists to make it interesting. Light-hearted, with just the right mix of humour and irony in the characters to make them human.

5.0 out of 5 stars One for bodykit specialists, 28 Oct. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this for my teenage son, and he loves it! It's really good on bodykit, so you get the original manufacturer's items (like Veilside), not just made-up game versions. Apparently this makes a lot of difference, so, although I don't play myself, you can take it from someone who spends hours putting together these amazing cars, piece by custom piece. I can, however, vouch for the music, some great, groovy tracks on here!

5.0 out of 5 stars Dare to delve into the dark side, 26 May 2012
This book is a must-have for students of handwriting analysis, but it would also be interesting to anyone studying criminality, or interested in behavioural profiling.

Iannetta has carried out extensive research on serial killers, criminality and violent behaviour over many years, as well as being an ace graphologist. I can honestly say, she's one of the best in the world at profiling the shadow, or dark side. Her research is meticulous, yet she is a caring teacher, whose mission is to help anyone personally or professionally to understand troubled individuals so that we might either help them, or become better people ourselves.

Don't buy the book without the profiling cards - they might seem expensive, but so many years of painstaking research has gone into them, I'd have paid twice the price for the information I received. You don't need to be an expert at anything to benefit, either, as the book and cards are written to be self explanatory.

Kim also has a supportive online chat group for those that buy the book and are serious about continuing their studies. Her work is unique, intriguing, sometimes disturbing, but wholly gripping. Once you pick up this book, you won't be able to put it down until you've devoured every last downstroke on a g or a y and tried to interpret its hidden meaning!

5.0 out of 5 stars Big Heart Bugatti, 7 May 2012

My 12 year-old son knows the Grand Sport from the Super Sport, and can tell me more about EB engine sizes, performance and speed from all the cars and models he buys faster than I could read such information - this is his expert review:

"It is better than other products because it has lovely metallic paint that doesn't come off, it has all the detail from the real version (even the steering wheel) and the wheels are rubber so it doesn't make a sound when you push it against any surface."

So many models fall apart when young hands want to play with them - this one is robust, durable yet true to original detail.

5.0 out of 5 stars Le Mans Classic for Little Ones, 7 May 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It's hard to get decent merchandise for hard core younger Le Mans fans, and this T shirt gives them something well made and durable that displays their two fave things: Steve McQueen as Mike Delaney, the iconic actor and racing driver in the film Le Mans, and the Porsche 917 Number 20 that he drives.

It's important to get the detail right for true young fans, and this T shirt hits the spot.

We'd been looking for this particular case to display the Steve McQueen Porsche 917 model to add to our collection. Functional and durable model case for the avid model motor collector.

The Time Traveller's Guide to Medieval England: A Handbook for Visitors to the Fourteenth Century
The Time Traveller's Guide to Medieval England: A Handbook for Visitors to the Fourteenth Century
by Ian Mortimer
Edition: Paperback
Price: £9.48

5.0 out of 5 stars A Medieval Master, 1 April 2012
What better way to understand modern-day customs, attire, architecture and habits, than to be transported back to the 14th Century? So much of our present-day existence can be traced back to this Golden Age, and Ian Mortimer puts this fabulously detailed manuscript together in a way befitting a Nobleman, Townsman or humble Villein to make sense of it.

I have learned so many new terms (murage, pontage, cranage to name but three) that have all but disappeared from modern vocabulary, yet reflect our closer relations with the French language at that time; fascinating stuff for likeminded linguists.

If ever Mortimer brings out a revised edition, I would ask to see all these new, ancient words listed at the back with modern explanations, so I wouldn't have to put the book down to grab my English Dictionary and look them up!

If you want to learn more about the past, present and future of this green and pleasant land, then this book will unlock many traditions that have been either forgotten, discontinued or never really quite understood.

Plug Your Book! Online Book Marketing for Authors: Online Book Marketing for Authors, Book Publicity Through Social Networking
by Steve Weber
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Dig Your Book!, 31 Mar. 2012
Steve Weber's book opens a whole new world to self publishers, trying to eke out marketing techniques that actually work. He gets straight to the point (which is, get your book onto Amazon as fast as you can), then divides each chapter into self contained sub headings that walk you through every key step.

What I liked about it was, it gave me things I could do in 10/15 minutes here and there, without losing the plot of what I was doing. This is so important, especially if you have a full-on day job and barely enough time to eat & sleep, yet alone write and market your own books. By heeding his sound bites, my book climbed 40,000 places in one weekend on Amazon, which is not something I had ever achieved with my own efforts.

Some of the stuff said in the 3* reviews is true, that the text is slightly out of date, but, hey, the guy wrote the book in 2007 before Twitter and the like took off, plus provides regular updates on his site/blog (with the warning that things go out of date so quickly online), that I'm sure this can easily be forgiven.

For anyone like me with not a hint of a clue as to how to maximise my online presence & even find an audience with my rather niche take on Rammstein and the German language, I now have a free website (I recommend Yola.com,) blog, rss feed, 42 twitter followers, 5* book reviews, author's profile, Myspace account, an authors' self help group on Facebook that I take part in - and all because I read this book! Thanks, Steve.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's Hip To Read Lip Service, 25 Mar. 2012
This review is from: Lip Service (Kindle Edition)
What if.....?

A question we often want to explore and let our minds run wild, yet most of us are so tamed by the minutiae of managing everyday existence we wouldn't have the first clue as to how to write a gripping, intricate story set in The Future.

Terry Bond not only takes the 'What ifs', she dizzily rotates them around the centrifuge of an intelligent plot and separates out a distorted web of mystery, intrigue and suspense, spinning spiderlike on its axis of disbelief and imagination.

A thought provoking book on so many different levels - put it down at your peril!
