5.0 out of 5 stars Heartfelt and funny, 2 Jun 2013
This review is from: Magic without Tears (Paperback)
It's a real shame that this book is out of print - It's one of my favourite books that I return to again and again. The binding and warm cover are excellent and suit the tone of the text. It's perfect for those who are more interested in the philosophies of Thelema / Crowley rather than the sometimes complex ritualistic side of his work. It's written in a very human down to earth tone and perhaps more uniquely it is a warm and funny book. I often find myself laughing at loud or just smiling at the rye humour that permeates the text. There is a wealth of information in here that is broken down into easy to understand language and even after many years of reading I always find something new or have a different understanding of what is being said when I come back to it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Cleans air but plastic off gassing makes me feel sick, 31 Mar 2013
For some ungodly reason the black plastic used on this machine absolutely reeks. I left this unit outside last summer for several days solid for it to offgas with no effect, it still smells just as noxious. Also after looking into the pros and cons of Ionization I would be cautious about using the Ionizer function - do some research!

On the plus side it does a good job of removing dust from the air - the only way I can use this machine is to let it run in a room to clean the air then take the unit out and box it up and then air the room to get rid of the plastic smell.

Really I am at a loss as to why they have used such noxious materials - the grey plastic doesn't seem to smell just the black top.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just for death metal fans, 18 Mar 2012
This review is from: Winds of Creation (Audio CD)
I love all kinds of music but have only heard a handful of death metal albums that I really like - this one has it all - it has the energy of youth - it feels a bit more thrashy than a lot of death metal i've heard - I like the low vocals - the songs have real structure and melody - production is great - not as brutal or compressed as say the negation just solid and powerful - Eye of Horus is an incredible track that blows me away every time I hear it. A limited edition vinyl run has just been made of this album by earache for those who are interested.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intense!, 21 Mar 2008
This review is from: 28 Weeks Later [DVD] [2007] (DVD)
This is a great movie that stands on it's own rather than trying to emulate the first movie too much. The plot twists and turns and there are some really shocking and brutal moments that may prove too much for some viewers.

Some reviewers have complained about the shift in character focus throughout the film but I thought this was one of the better aspects of the movie, no-one is safe and you are never sure who will survive and who will not.

The style of the film is refreshing with a distinct european feel to some of the cinematography - this is not your typical blockbuster and this works in the films favour giving a sense of unpredictability to the proceedings.

The acting is Excellent from most of the cast, and the Anglo / USA combo actually works well.

The violence and gore are ramped up perhaps a little too much at times, with one scene in particular being extremely disturbing and another almost crossing over into Peter Jackson territority (Braindead!).

Check it out!

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic 80s Flick, 28 Jan 2008
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This was a favourite of mine from the 80s - I just rewatched it again for the first time in years on this DVD. The picture and sound quality are first rate.

The film itself is a real mix of teen movie, horror, sci-fi, cheese, romance and tragedy. All the actors are excellent and really carry the emotion of the story. Lots of classic moments - you will either love it or hate it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Suprisingly Good!, 24 Jan 2008
I didn't expect a lot from this tale but was pleasantly suprised to find that this is one of the best old school Doctor Who tales I have viewed in some time. Tom Baker is excellent as The Doctor and comes out of the starting blocks with a fully formed character right from the start.

I would reccomend this one to fans of the new series who would like to check out the old stuff as the feel is quite similar in tone. We have Sarah Jane Smith on her own quest much like the modern Sarah Jane Adventures and the Doctor's eccentric behaviour after his regeneration reminded me a lot of David Tennant's performance in 'The Christmas Invasion'. Harry is introduced to the team (yay) and the Brig is left behind as the doctor leaves earth at the end of episode 4.

Great extras, and it's interesting to listen to Tom Baker in the Commentary as it is the first time he has actually seen the show himself!

All in all - this is great fun and full of energy - well recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Fun and Interesting Story!, 1 July 2007
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
Geez... some people love moaning (see the negative reviews below) - I picked this up at a good price without any preconceived notions and found this to be a solid adventure game with an intriguing story. There are some minor faults and one or two puzzles that will have you looking on the net for hints but this is true of 99% of ALL adventure games.

I really loved the voicework and characterisation of Holmes and Watson - helping each other out throughout the game.

If you want a laid back game with puzzles, humour and mystery this is well recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars Enemy Mine - EXTENDED CUT, 22 April 2007
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Enemy Mine [1985] [DVD] (DVD)
I loved this movie as a kid and bought it on DVD recently. First off - it's a great transfer - nice to see the widescreen print of this movie. But better still is that this is a good 10 minutes or more longer than the version released on video back in the 80s. Now it's been a long time since i've seen this so I might not be 100% accurate but the bulk of the new scenes are mainly emotional bonding scenes between the 2 leads and also later we get more of Zamus growing up with Will. There are also just a few little scenes that have been added here and there that were probably cut for pacing reasons. Anyway, it's great to see an extended cut of this little 80s sci-fi gem. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most Powerful LP Ever?, 1 Mar 2007
I can't believe this is now out of print - that's a shame if you don't allready own it 'cos if I had to pick one KJ album (one of my fave bands) as a favourite then this is it!

So powerful yet with huge depth of emotion and meaning and even more relevant today than when it was released.

Love it!
