4.0 out of 5 stars A tale of people that transcends politics, 27 Jan 2013
Discordia lived with me for days after reading it. Not the specific details, the intricacies of Greek politics or the way its press has been neutered in a way which makes Britain seem a bastion of free speech, but the power of people.

Penny's journalistic style adds colour and poetry to the bleakest and most aggressive of landscapes, detailing the symptoms of poverty and subjugation that don't make the headlines - the human stories of what feels like a war on the 99%.

Despite this, I was left with an overwhelming sense of hope. There there were people like Laurie, Molly and Yiannis who voiced the struggle so beautifully and with such unrelenting fervour that together, with art, liberty and (increasingly) a genuine fear for their future, they can rid society of its ills. That the heart, vitality and intelligence of the left could outweigh the brutish dominion of the right.

1.0 out of 5 stars @jamesswyer - A good Art these days is hard to find, 17 Jun 2011
Arts Reviews?? Seriously?!

I read this cover to cover and, to my amazement, there's not a single review from anyone called Art whatsoever.

I've spent a lifetime wishing for Art Malik's views on the merits of smoky bacon Wheat Crunchies, Art Garkfunel's critique of the Maginot Line and how differing opinions of it, ironically, caused divisions which ultimately soured their pair's working relationship. Hell, I'd have even settled for Art Blakey's take on `If You're Feeling Sinister' by Belle & Sebastian, but no. Kenneth Tynan? Who does he think he is masquerading as `Art'?

It sickens me and it shows just how far this country has lost its touch. A damning indictment of this world as we know it and all who profess to be part of it

4.0 out of 5 stars Challenging, funny and masterfully made, 23 Feb 2011
As a fan of many of the shows Chris Morris has made, especially Brass Eye [DVD] [1997], I looked forward to watching this.

If anyone could make comedy out of troubling and taboo subjects, it's Morris, although I did worry if terrorism might be a step too far even for him. I needn't worry.

This won't suit all tastes and, if you're sensitive about religious issues or squeamish, this isn't the film for you.

Kayvan Novak, best known for his Channel 4 creation 'Fonejacker' Fonejacker - Series 1-2 Plus Facejacker - Complete [DVD], steals the show with a naive and slapstick role with juxtaposes the film's serious subject matter.

Despite several 'laugh out loud' moments, it's wrong to describe this as just a comedy. At times it asks some serious questions, albeit with humour mixed in, and leaves you with a mix of emotions that few other films can lay claim to.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent fun!, 23 Feb 2011

Bought this as a present for a 5 year-old and it was extremely popular.

The ages on the box are 6-12, which is probably about right, as I had to take over most of the making. That being said, it's been quite robust ever since and has lasted the 3 weeks it's been used for without me putting it back together again!

Excellent for fans of both Lego and the toy Story films.
