1.0 out of 5 stars The Knack...............of irritating the viewer!, 21 Feb. 2010
Like the Beatles 'Hard days Night' I have to ask, where does Dick Lester get his sense of humour from?
Pushing a bed through the streets of London, painting a house white, climbing in and out a window. Nostagia? sorry dont remember anyone who acted so irritating in the, did someone say, 'swinging 60s'?.
This film was never 'Zany' just irritable, like Lester was when he directed it. One star for the music of John Barry!

1.0 out of 5 stars Nostalgia............?, 21 Feb. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Georgy Girl [DVD] [1966] (DVD)
Couldn't help laughing at those who said it's 60s 'Nostalgia', not as I remember the 60s!
Obviously London was filled with extremely irritating people if this was 'true nostalgia? James Mason acted his character reasonably well but what the heck was Alan Bates all about. Was it Bates acting or was it meant to be the character. Was Lynn Redgrave acting at all or is she just like that. Charlotte Rampling running around jumping in and out of sports cars!
The acting and directing was so irritating all the way through that it made ME irritable watching it! I collect 50s/60s/70s films and can identify with most of them. This 'tripe' on the other hand had me cringing and glad I didn't live in this part of 'Swinging London'.
Georgy Girl is about a bunch of misfit characters with all the actors overacting out of character, it's blatantly obvious even the director got lost/irritated on the first day. I gave it one star for James Mason's acting!

UFO Case Files of Scotland (Amazing Real Life Alien Encounters)
UFO Case Files of Scotland (Amazing Real Life Alien Encounters)
by Malcolm Robinson

5.0 out of 5 stars UFO Case Files of Scotland, 21 Dec. 2009
I dont know where to start here! This book is so personal to the individual cases that you feel you are there at the scene. I was getting fed up with books being written by so called authors who never investigated their cases. They were for me the 'armchair Ufologists'. Malcolm does go 'hands on' with his investigations and this is obvious when reading his book! He is a well known speaker on the subject (worldwide) and its his friendly manner along with detailed account of his cases that catches immediate attention. This book says as much about the UFO Investigator as the individual cases and Malcolm is without doubt top of his class! He was recently asked why he took so long to write his first book and replied 'Up to my eyes investigating, just hadn't the time'.
It's an easy yet detailed read including the funny side as well as the extremely serious side of UFO investigations. For the first time it relates, again in great detail, the Bonnybridge cases, Bob Taylor's encounter, the probable abduction with the A70 case and many many more extremely interesting accounts of one man's 30 years experinces.
If you are in the least interested in the subject of UFO's then this book is certainly worth having on your bookshelf. Absolutely fantastic read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Digital Restoration? This is the Book!, 28 Oct. 2009
If you're seriously into your photography and store on digital with pc, then you just might want/need to save some old photographs. Old b/w and slides can be brought back to life by following instructions within this fantastic book.
Some of us already use Photoshop etc to get good results but this book really does end the need for 'experimenting'. It shows us how to obtain a good initial digital copy, even before full restoration begins. Although in-depth it is easy to understand giving numerous examples on almost every page, you can guarantee your damaged pic is covered within these pages. A cracking reference worth every penny!

5.0 out of 5 stars Warminster......Arthur's Shrine., 13 July 2009
Kevin tells it as it was, and still is! The book is indeed an easy read and written by one whose been there. Too many author's have written about Warminster from a distance, and it comes across in their writing. I feel like I was with Kevin and his mates as they headed to Arthur's Shrine. The book also tells the history of the 'Warminster Mystery' from mid sixties. The importance of Arthur Shuttlewoods writings and his continuous work in getting the mystery out to general public is generously noted. I particularly liked the idea of the 'Star House' where skywatchers could meet. Kevin is taking the reader with him and his mates. A fantastic personal journey written from the heart. No frills, just the way it was!

5.0 out of 5 stars 'Yesterday's Britain' ...as it really was!, 30 April 2008
This series of DVDs is not Newsreel clips. This is film taken at the time by amatuers, friends and family members. Packaging and picture quality are excellent. No sound but that only add's to the atmosphere of the time. An unobtrusive narration guiding you through the scenes is helpful.
It's a record of everyday life, much like we do today with our digital cameras, and obviously this is what makes this series interesting.
A refreshing innocence and dignity shine through. Whether its nostalga, history or simply to see old cars, homes, dresses, suits or wallpaper! this DVD series will show you...exactly as it was!

5.0 out of 5 stars The way it was!!, 30 April 2008
Packaging and picture quality is excellent considering most of the film taken was done by amateurs, family members and friends etc.
This 'Yesterdays Britain' series is important mainly because of the above, it is not Newsreels of the time but shows reality of everyday life.
I suppose it's not much different from today when people buy the digital cameras to record family, friends, holidays, events etc..........it's all here but obviously in a different age, that's what makes this DVD series interesting.
A refreshing innocence and dignity show through. An honest look at the way it was. Treat yourself to a little nostalga and an insight into how things really were!

5.0 out of 5 stars History, or just nostalga.,...........it's excellent!!, 30 April 2008
Packaging and picture quality is excellent, obviously no sound, apart from an informative narration. This isn't a problem and only add's to the atmosphere.
What I particularly like about the 'Yesterday's Britain' series is that they are not the boring Newsreels of the time but show families and surroundings the way it was. Albeit in the 30s, it would be the well off who could afford movie cameras! As in the 40s and 50s series there is an innocence shows through as well as an old style dignity.
I would certainly recommend this series of DVDs. It's not the way some director would have you see it but film taken by various family and friends of the time,...... just the way it was!
