5.0 out of 5 stars Raising boys, 24 Dec. 2012

A must-read for anyone involved in boys' lives. The print is larger than most books - but this made it more accessible (to me). Useful analogies, anecdotes, images; excellent insight; from individual and community perspectives.

This excellent book brings together knowledge of the body and brain, and how the affects of trauma manifest and impact on the individual's holistic development. It identifies 'survival strategies' which the individual makes use of, when trying to sustain contact with their primary carers in 5 clear areas of development (connection, attunement, trust, autonomy, love and sexuality); it then suggests how to support reparation and healing. This is an excellent guide to integrating psychological approaches with somatic / body / felt sense.

This is a heart warming film - tears and laughter and some beautiful sentiments about belonging and what 'family' means. I wasn't expecting to like it, when I read the blurb, but I loved it. Enjoy

The author compassionately and intelligently deals with the area of being exposed to others' trauma; how we unconsciously become saturated with our own resonances, and others' pain, hopelessness, helplessness; what we do with this - how our strategies to protect ourselves can result in damage to our personal lives and professional roles; and strategies to work with these impacting experiences. Highly recommend this inspirational book!
