BT 2000 Cordless DECT Phone (Pack of 3)
BT 2000 Cordless DECT Phone (Pack of 3)
Price: £37.99

5.0 out of 5 stars A decent set of three, 8 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The box of phones was delivered securely and promptly. Despite my celebrated ineptitude, I found them easy enough to set up, though it was necessary to go online - no great hardship! - to find some of the instructions (the printed enclosure is pretty minimal). The three handsets function precisely as I'd hoped, and the range is perfectly adequate for my needs, inside and outside the house. If I have a reservation - and it's a purely personal one - it's that none of the five available ring-tones really suits me. All in all, I'm very happy with my purchase, as it does what it says on the box.

5.0 out of 5 stars A perfect book for the novice, 8 Aug. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book is an excellent guide, and heaven-sent for the amateur observer who is perplexed by bird sounds described as tchk-tchk-pwee or whatever. The player itself is easy to use, though not especially loud, and one rapidly becomes adept at moving through the numbers by which the birdsongs are dialled up: the sound quality is perfectly adequate for its task. Sensibly, the player is designed to shut down after 30 secs of non-use so as to avoid battery wastage.

The book is far more than a mere token accompaniment to the player. It is robustly bound, printed on fine quality paper, and contains superb colour photos of all the species included, together with some drawings (to distinguish male and female, for example, or show the bird in flight). The notes, though fairly brief, are wonderfully informative - on songs and calls, of course, but also about size, habitat, migration, diet, and any distinctive characteristics. There is a helpful general introduction at the start, and an index and bibliography at the end. The 150 species represented seem to include all those that the average observer is likely to encounter in the British Isles.

This is too weighty a tome for use in the field, and in any case the reader is quite rightly requested not to use the player where it might confuse the real songsters. But, for those wishing to learn to distinguish birds by their songs and calls, this book is superb value and of coffee-table quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Britten + Truro = Perfection, 21 July 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I love Britten's music, and I love cathedral choirs. For anyone who shares my loves, this CD is a no-brainer. But for those who wish to acquire a taste for Britten, this CD is ideal - short or middling-length pieces where Britten's choral work is condensed into exciting, accessible chunks. For those coming fresh to cathedral choirs, Truro provides a sparkling, exuberant introduction. Yes, Truro is stuck out on the distant Western Approaches of the British Isles, but its cathedral choir of men and boys can rival any metropolitan outfit in the technique and passion of its singing. I recommend this CD very highly, both for its music and for its performance. If you are tempted to buy, do so: you will not be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Phoenix, Amazona, 21 July 2012

First, the delivery: I ordered late on Sunday night, and it arrived on Tuesday morning. Wow! How do they do that? The stems (trunks) of this palm are exceedingly lifelike, but the green foliage is somewhat less so - it's passable rather than brilliant. It's worth spending some time (an hour?) in arranging the fronds into natural arches, as the outcome is then much improved: one learns how to bend the leaves to best effect, as they are very pliable and respond to patient attention. The height is almost exactly the advertised 5.5ft, but the overall effect is massive and architectural (width almost 3ft). In sum, I regard this item (made in China) as good value for money provided one does not expect to deceive friends about its realism at less than 5ft range. For me, it's done the intended job: I like it. It comes in a 10" plastic-terracotta pot.

4.0 out of 5 stars Diamond for an Anniversary, 1 April 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Large Diamond Paper Weight (10cm)
As a small, casual gift for a Diamond Wedding Anniversary, this product proved ideal, and was appreciated by the recipients. It is perhaps unfair to point out that it glittered less than a diamond, and less even than its photo, but it still served its purpose well, and the supplier's description was accurate. Delivery was prompt, and the packaging more than adequate to protect the article in transit. I am well pleased.
