2.0 out of 5 stars Works well enough, but the backlight is very poor, 25 Nov. 2014

Compact and simple, but the light only shows the middle 2 numerals, making it pretty difficult to read in the dark!

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable fiction based on real experience of the author as a secret Auxiliary, 10 Jan. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Gone To Ground (Paperback)
My Grandfather was an Auxiliary, and the story of what might have happened had Britain been invaded provides a great insight into the tough path they were willing to tread!

The detail of how they were set up ,trained, and how they operated in isolated cells is fantastic!

The only weakness of this story is that the big picture of the invasion of Britain is somewhat oversimplified!

Otherwise it's a great story and a good read!

3.0 out of 5 stars Variable performance from Boston, 10 Jan. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Always wanted to see Boston, so to get this time capsule of them playing live in 75 was interesting!

Honestly I am somewhat underwhelmed! As a musician it's not a surprise to me that the awesome studio sound can't be recreated live, and given the technology available in 75 I guess this performance is what I'd expect, but to me it seems that the end result is very variable!

Some tracks are great, while others are iffy, and with the occasional moment where Brad Delp turns into a wailing hyena? Don't get me wrong he's an incredible singer, but he,s over singing at times!

This recording doesn't capture the excitement and soaring uplift of their first two studio albums, More than A Feeling, really misses the rich 12 string guitar introduction for example, although the emotion of Tom Scholz's solo on A Man I'll Never Be is tangible!

So if you listen to this with an open mind, and recognise that live sound equipment plus recording equipment used is 40 years out of date, then it's still impressive, although vocally disappointing at times!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome & uplifting in your face melodic rock, 24 Sept. 2012
This review is from: Address The Nation (Audio CD)
I was bought this from my wishlist for my birthday! What a fantastic CD/album.

This is such a strong album, with uplifting and cleverly crafted songs, superbly arranged and with absolutely killer hooks on almost every song!

In my opinion "Ron Jovi" must wish they were this good, and since Dan Huff doesnt record with or produce Giant anymore this takes up where he left off!

These guys are AOR gods in a time when AOR music is largely forgotten. The voice is clear, and hard edged, rising to some unfeasible highs, while the guitars scream melodies and harmonies, interspersed with blistering and accurate pace, backed by a thoughtful and effective rhythm and keys section garnishing with stunning syncopation, and soaring layers of vocal harmonies!

And the production of these 6 guys playing full on is flawless! Damn i gotta see these guys play!

5.0 out of 5 stars Orgasmically exciting melodic rock, at its very best, 4 Sept. 2008
This review is from: Heart Full Of Fire (Audio CD)
Its been a long long time since an unknown artist/album created such a feeling of excitement and celebration on my first listen! Not since DARE Out of the Silence in fact!Out of the Silence

The sheer exhilaration of such cleverly crafted melodic rock, excellently performed, well produced, catchy songs is difficult to adequately describe.

The beautifully rich vocal harmonies and soaring guitarwork is truly class leading ably supported by driving rhythm and layered keyboards.

If you like melodic rock late 80's style, then these guys deliver this flawlessly with a modern edge. I dare you not to like this album its so truly uplifting.
