5.0 out of 5 stars Just Buy it - Fantastic Set - Great Value - Highly recommended, 20 May 2011
I'm reviewing Nazareth - The Solid Gold Collection - 2 cd Set
This 2005 budget priced compilation - covers Their self tittled 1971 debut lp
through to 1994 and ticks all the boxes for essential single and cd tracks

The remastering is good and excellent track by track liner notes

I originally bought this to supplement the two other Nazareth comp cds I aleady owned
The Very Best of Nazareth - an excellent single cd collection with great remastering and track collection & Nazologythis has some interesting live versions - the remastering is so so

Anyway , Nazareth - The Solid Gold Collection - 2 cd Set is now my fave of the three

There is so much more to Nazareth than their fantastic hit "Love Hurts" - they have blown me
away as a hard rockin band - I'm a recent convert

Buy it - my only minor complaint is that neither their fantastic 1971 cover of "Morning Dew" from their debut or the 1981 remake is included - that complaint is a minor one !!

If you like cheeky double - entendre humour. Max is the man for you and so is this cd

He pushed the boundaries of humour for the early 60's without being vulgar or swearing but through jokes with double meanings

This is a long deleted re-issue cd of a classic Early 1960's Max Miller lp released on the Pye / Golden guinea label in the UK
- Astor records ( in Australia)

Max was very popular on British radio in the 1930's, his career had a second wind in the late 50's/ early 60's in the UK on the Nixa/ Pye label.

He also recorded a single in the early 60's with Lonnie Donnegan . Sadly Max miller passed away in 1963.

also recommended is the companion cd to this one which also sadly has been deleted and is only available on cassetteMax at the Met/That's Nice Maxie [CASSETTE]

5.0 out of 5 stars I Feel Free - Ultimate Cream - limited Edition - 3 cd box set, 22 Nov. 2010
Highly recommended as a comprehensive Cream anthology

It combines the 2x cd Cream "Gold" compilation
- cd 1 is the best of the studio recordings
- cd 2 is the best of the Live recording
& cd 3 is Live at the BBC

The Mastering of cds 1 & 2 is outstanding as are all of the "Gold " comp cd's on Universal music
especially the tracks from disraeli Gears - I prefer these remasters to the 90's remasters

Live at the BBC - the remastering is good considering the limitations / quality of the source material

The Best Of... Part 1
The Best Of... Part 1
Price: £7.99

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best of ......... Part 1 cd, 21 Nov. 2010
This review is from: The Best Of... Part 1 (Audio CD)
Highly Recommended as a single cd compilation of the David Byron years 1970-76

This was originally released on LP in late 1975 without tracks 13,14,15
The cd is worth the price for the sublime "July Morning"

If you want a more detailed anthology of the David byron era then check out
Travellers In Time: Anthology Vol. 1

The post David Byron era of uriah heep is nicely compiled in the companion
The Best Of... Part 2 also highly recommended

Its a shame that David Byron's replacement John Lawton didint stay very long with Heep

Lawton was also a great vocalist in the hard rock / metal vein
- hear him on the Best of..... Part 2 cd.

Come Away Melinda: The Ballads

5.0 out of 5 stars Come away Melinda : The Ballads - Uriah Heep cd, 21 Nov. 2010
Well Recommended for Heep fans - especially Aussie / NZ fans as it contains "Free Me " a 1977 hit in those territories . I paid $10 Australian for my copy.

This is a really nice collection of Uriah Heep ballads 1970-77 featuring the fantastic voice of David Byron - Great ballads without being cheesy.

Standout tracks: "If I only had time" & "Wonderworld" (these not only feature the Late Great Dave Byron on vocals but wonderful melodic - Rick Wakeman style meoldic old - school minimoog - synth from Ken Henslie.

The tittle track of the cd "come away melinda' - a haunting cover of a anti-nuke 60's folk song. This cd also features 2 tracks by Byron's very able replacement "John Lawton" who by the way sang lead on "Free Me" .

I cant wait till 1st April 2011 when Heep they play my home town - bring it On !!

5.0 out of 5 stars Emergency ward/It is finished/black & Gold - Nina Simone - 2 cd set BMG label, 21 Nov. 2010
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - IF YOU LOVE NINA - THEN BUY IT !!

If you are buying this cd as I did to get Nina's wonderful version live version of Sandy Denny's "who knows where the time goes" as featured in the soundtrack of the movie "The Dancer Upstairs" ( starring Javier Bardem) and in the soundtrack features a lovely spoken monologue intro by nina. That same live version is on this cd , complete with the monologue / intro .

It is worth buying for that track alone
The rest of the tracks on this 2 x cd set are great also
This set combines 3 of her classic Live lps in their entirety and is Essential Nina

You won't be dissapointed

3.0 out of 5 stars Just Like a Woman: Nina Simone Sings Classic Songs [Us Import] by Rockin Rob , Sydney , Australia, 21 Nov. 2010
This single cd compilation is a good intro to Nina Simone's classic late 60's/early 70's RCA period . The cd is based around covers of well known songs of the period and works well.

However, if you are buying this cd as I did to get Nina's wonderful version live version of Sandy Denny's "who knows where the time goes" as featured in the soundtrack of the movie "The Dancer Upstairs" ( starring Javier Bardem) and in the soundtrack features a lovely spoken monologue intro by nina. That same live version is on this cd , but without the monologue / intro .

If you want the full version of "who knows where the time goes"complete with monologue , then instead buy the wonderful 2cd set on BMG Camden
Emergency Ward/It Is Finished/Black Gold

This combines 3 of her classic Live lps in their entirety and is essential Nina
I hope this review is of some assistance.
