Good family film - if the young people are a little older. Very similar to the first film in its style and wit.

I thoroughly enjoyed this historical novel. Evocative of age and customs. Will certainly seek out the next in the series.

3.0 out of 5 stars A surprisingly good read, 11 Jan. 2015

I was not expecting much as the book has only been released electronically as an e-book. However, despite little things that stretched incredulity and the fact that I 'd guessed the murderer within moments of him being introduced, I thought it a good easy read for a cold windy wet afternoon. I liked the central character and will possibly buy more by the author. The book deserves a little more than three stars, but less than four

3.0 out of 5 stars A Surprising Read, 6 Nov. 2014

This review is from: Apple Tree Yard (Kindle Edition)
Despite the fact that the heroine is my age, and that I know the corridors she walks in really well, I could not relate to the first part of the book and her actions at all. It took me a while to get into it. Having said that, I was gripped by the book once I got to the trial. It is a good psychological yarn with many a twist and turn

5.0 out of 5 stars Sad to leave Barchester behind, 15 Mar. 2014

Without doubt the grittiest of the Barchester tales, but with enough warmth and humanity displayed by our favourite characters to make it a fabulous rounded read. Read the whole series in order, just as relevant and fresh today as it was when Trollope first wrote them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best crime novel I have read for a long time, 15 Mar. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Verdict (Hardcover)
A fast paced legal thriller by a winner of the CWA steel dagger award. I agree with Mark Billingham, The Verdict is in a style that reminded me of John Grisham at his best.

For those of you that read "Mr Clarinet", Nick Stone's first novel, you will see that the style of writing is equally good but very different. Where "Mr Clarinet" was gritty, heavy with menace and evocative of a dark frightening Haiti, "The Verdict" is in more familiar and comfortable territory of the British Court room.

I thought the style fresh, exciting, a real page turner. Hoping Nick will give us more Terry Flynt, I really liked him.

4.0 out of 5 stars an excellent read, 25 Nov. 2013

Thoroughly enjoyed this well written crime novel. There is real pathos in the pages and heart rending twists and turns. It was a perfect read for a cold winters day in front of a fire.

but it won't be my last. A little macho but well written

Really hate the minimum words per review rule.
