5.0 out of 5 stars Budget IP camera with excellent performance, 25 Aug. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This camera performs very well and can act both as an IP camera but could also be used as baby camera.

Firstly, build quality is very good. In the box you get all the required attachments including a power lead, a mounting bracket and screws to secure to the wall if required.
The device free stands on a shelf or ledge comfortably and can be tilted at an angle to suit.
It is however not waterproof so is not useful for mounting outside, unless it can be kept away from the weather.
It only runs of mains power too and the lead isn't that long, so it isn't really suited for use like a CCTV system.
It is better used for keeping an eye on children as they play in another room, or for monitoring a sleeping baby.

Setup I found to be simple and straightforward, there is a decent enough instruction manual supplied.
You basically download the "2CU" app from the IOS or apple store and follow the prompts.
I did have a bit of trouble finding the UK in the country list though, that's because instead of it being listed under "UK" or "England" it is instead under "B" for "Britain."

That little hiccup out of the way, the device connects wirelessly to the app allowing you to view the image from the camera on your smartphone or tablet.
The image quality is surprisingly good, although calling it HD is probably a bit of a stretch.
You get a prompt on the bottom left to switch the image between SD and HD but there isn't any difference.
Still, none of that means the image is bad, because it isn't.

You can take still images of the displayed image, as well as use a two way talkback function. Bear in mind though that there is considerable lag in the audio and video, in that respect it doesn't work as well as a traditional baby monitor would but once you have worked out the delay it is possible to have a conversation across the camera.
Audio output is not the highest volume mind you, but can be adjusted in the app settings.

Talking about the 2CU app, it's nicely laid out and easy to navigate. Touching the camera in the device list brings you up a whole new settings menu where you can dig into the detail of recording and alarm settings, among other things.

I must mention the night vision, which works exceptionally well in my view, as good as any other night vision image I have seen.
It automatically activates when the light dims so you don't need to worry about turning it on and the image quality displayed is excellent.

You can rotate the image displayed by swiping your finger across the screen, this isn't always responsive but does work in the end.

A recording schedule can bet set up to record to SD Card and this can be motion activated. Furthermore, this can also be set with an alarm to warn you of any motion, so should you be on holiday and want to monitor your house then this is absolutely ideal and extremely effective.

In summary and with everything considered, I am very impressed with this IP camera and it comes recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful multi tool with safety in mind, 25 Aug. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This little beauty is absolutely ideal for keeping in the car and could potentially be a life saver.
I try to check my tyre pressures regularly but I have an old device that requires plugging into the cigarette lighter and to be perfectly honest it's a bit of faff.
This device makes checking tyre pressure a breeze, especially as it reads out in PSI, BAR, KPA or kgf/cm2.
Please bear in mind though this is not a tyre inflator.
I have tested this against a machine at a petrol station and the reading were the same, so I know it's accurate.
The display is bright and clear too so no issues with reading it.

Beyond that you get a usefully bright torch, a red LED light, a hammer to smash glass and a host of multi tools usually found on a swiss army knife.
They include a seat belt cutter, scissors, plier, phillips screwdriver and a slotted screwdriver.
They are all made from solid stainless steel and offer superb quality.

The device is powered by three batteries secured in a catch on the back of the device and has an auto shutoff function which activates at the 90 second mark to conserve power.

Build quality is very good, I expect this device to last well. It could potentially save your life should you find yourself trapped in your car after on accident or something like that.
This device should therefore live without fail in your glove box or centre console providing you have room for it.

With safely and value in mind, this is a superb device and I highly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Budget gaming mouse..., 24 Aug. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This a budget gaming mouse, designed as an introduction to such devices where comfort, speed and responsiveness of the inputs is a key criteria.
In all those aspects this mouse performs very well, it looks good, it sits very comfortably in the hand and has worked flawlessly during my test.

The changing colour lights are not to me liking at all, but this can be set to stay on one colour as each press of the DPI button results in a new colour being displayed.
This colour change is linked to the DPI so you can set it accordingly.

Beyond that there are three buttons on the left hand side which can customised accordingly to the type of game you are playing.
It should be said though that the supplied instruction manual is very poor and does not make explaining this easy at all.
I am not much of an avid gamer but I suspect that you set the buttons from the control settings on the game itself, not on the mouse beforehand.

You can also use this mouse as a standard optical mouse for use with a computer or laptop.
If it's your thing to showcase a fancy mouse then by all means go ahead, however apart from the DPI speed it doesn't offer anything over and above what an ordinary mouse can do.

In summary, considering the price I am happy to recommend this product.
From conducting my own research professional gaming mice can be bought for over £100, meaning this sits firmly in the budget category.
I would say it is especially suited to an up and coming gamer who wants to find out whether gaming mice are for them, without shelling out bigger money.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you need a bluetooth audio solution for the car, you won't go wrong with this, 24 Aug. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a cheap and cheerful solution to enable Bluetooth music streaming in your car, providing it has an "aux in" port on the dashboard or centre console.
In the box you get the adapter, a magnetic sticky pad, a USB charging cable and an aux cable.
I have found performance to be very good, build quality looks a little cheap in plastic but the plus side is it's extremely lightweight so securing it to the dashboard with the provided magnet is straightforward.
Pairing is a breeze and the audio quality is decent enough, it uses a rather old Bluetooth 2.0 however but in terms of performance it is perfectly adequate.
So far I have had no drop outs in the music which can happen with some of these adapters.
We also have a few neat little extras here such as a microphone for handsfree calls, a micro SD and a USB slot for playback of files from these devices.
I again have found the sound quality perfectly acceptable across all inputs so should you not have a Bluetooth device then the ability to playback music this way is a rather handy feature.
For the price, you really can't go wrong. It offers value and performance with a couple of additional features not found in other devices.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent headphones all round, 2 Aug. 2015
I was sent these headphones for an unbiased review so here are my thoughts.

The Syllable G600 are bluetooth headphones designed for use with any device that can utilise the bluetooth connection standard, so these days pretty much every smartphone or tablet on the market.
The design is similar to old style over the head headphones, the sort of thing you'd of got years ago with an old fashioned Walkman, before earphones took over.
How fashionable you consider a product such as this is down to personal preference, for me I think they look good and there are plenty of other more expensive alternatives such as beats headphones by apple which utilise the same design.

That out of the way then, onto the feel and quality of the product.
Build quality is good, the adjustable headstrap is a nice and they are light and comfortable to wear over the ears. They do a good job of cutting out other sounds and they rest nicely around the neck if you want to carry them this way.
The Syllable branding is embossed in rather larger lettering on the headstrap either side.

The three buttons on the right hand side serve as the power and volume adjustments. They are nice and responsive and can be operated by feel alone once they are on your ears.

Having spent just under two hours charging, they were good to do. Pairing is a doodle and the good quality instruction manual explains the process clearly.
Sound quality is for the most part, very good. I was pleasantly surprised, they make a very decent amount of bass and you can distinctly hear the individual instruments and vocals in your choice of music.
I am mainly a rock and metal music fan and I thought they handled this genre admirably enough.

I've also found the Bluetooth connection to be reliable with no dropouts so far, they also go extremely loud so you at no point need your volume at maximum. I haven't noticed any distortion as the volume increases, well nothing to spoil the enjoyment of the music anyway.

Battery life is a claimed 8/12 hours, well I got to around 10, so very happy with that.

There is also a rather nice 3.5mm audio jack to use a wired connection should bluetooth not be your thing, which is exceptionally convenient.

Should your mobile ring with a call when you're rocking out then that's also no problem, the built in microphone allows you to talk handsfree without removing the headphones.

All things considered, especially the price, I found these headphones to be of excellent quality.

I cannot compare them to more expensive models because I have not listened to any, but for a first foray into the world of bluetooth headphones I would suggest the Syllable G600 is a nice place to start.

5.0 out of 5 stars Once you have it paired, this is a great product, 30 July 2015
So I had all host of trouble trying to get this device working, not helped by the poor instruction manual which doesn't tell you how get into pairing mode.
Once I had worked out you have to press and hold the function key (fn) along with the letter C (which doubles as the bluetooth button) until the blue light blinks indicating pairing mode, then all is good.
You then have to scan for new Bluetooth signals on your device and the keyboard is discoverable.
The final step is to type the prompted code on the keyboard to confirm pairing.

That rigmarole out of the way, the keyboard functions very well indeed. It's compact, lightweight, sits at a nice angle and the keys are soft and very responsive to the touch.
It is an excellent typing experience one equally as good as a full size keyboard.

I have now paired it to my smartphone and my laptop, all working flawlessly. If your a social media addict or you spend a lot of time typing on your phone, this will make your life considerably easier.
There's perhaps a practicality issue to consider in the sense that it might not be suitable to carry around all day like your phone, but no doubt about it this is an excellent reliable gadget that serves it's purpose very well indeed.

I could knock a star of for the poor instructions but upon reflection it really wasn't too tricky to work out and it shouldn't of taken me as long as it did.

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars 2nd album from Mark Tremonti and it's..., 27 July 2015
This review is from: Cauterize (Audio CD)
"Cauterize" is the second studio album by Mark Tremonti, guitarist of Creed and more recently Alter Bridge.
Mark's been busy, not content with touring and recording with Alter Bridge he's straight onto his solo work once Myles joins up with Slash for a record and tour.
This is allegedly the first part of a double album, the second album called "dust" due to be released next year.
I hope it's not a case of "recorded to much music so lets just release the lot," we should have quality as well as quantity.

Thankfully, Mark delivers on all fronts. Musically, this is a modern hard rock/heavy metal album with influences of speed and thrash metal,
I think the jury's still out on whether it's better than his debut, but taken on it's own merit this still a superb album.

Lead single "Another Heart" is classic Tremonti, hard, heavy and melodic with the usual guitar solo.

Oddly enough, the weakest track here "Flying Monkeys" is the second single, not a favorite of mine but the only dud on the album.

Mark proves he's not only one of the best guitarists in the world but also now a seasoned vocalist, his harmonies resounding proudly over the countless riffs and dark bass lines.

Slower songs this time include "Dark Trip" and Fall Again" providing a welcome change of tone but still maintaining the solid musical melody Mark has become known for in his music.

"Providence" is an excellent album closer as well, at 5.45 the longest song on the album but the perfect way to bring the record to a close.

In summary, if your like you rock hard, loud and melodic then this is an essential listen, it comes highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent enough headphones for exercise, 27 July 2015
I was offered these for an impartial and fair review by the manufacturer so here are my thoughts.

Firstly, this product is well packaged, comes with clear instructions and a very small micro USB lead to charge them.
Charging takes around 2 hours from flat so not bad at all, with a promise of working time at around 5 hours and a standby time of around 180 hours.

They are extremely lightweight, the headband is adjustable for comfort and the rubber coated earbuds sit pushed up against the inner ear.

The control pad on the strap also includes a microphone useful for answering calls should you be disturbed during your exercise routine.

You also get a rather useful arm strap for securing your smartphone, ideal because you don't want to be exercising with it in your hands.
This is made very well and has two compartments, one sealed with a zip and the other with velcro.

After the initial charging period I was able to get going. They fit comfortably enough around the ear, but I find the sensation of "in ear" buds uncomfortable. I much prefer the older type of headphones that sit more on the outer ear.
Also "in ear" buds such as this need a lot of wiggling around to achieve the optimum sound quality and these are no different.

Having persevered, I found the sound quality to be above average but nothing more than that. It's perhaps a little thin, but considering their size and what you use them for they serve the purpose perfectly well.
I've heard better overall, but put in perspective there's not too much to dislike.

In summary, there's a lot to like about his product. The build quality is good, they're comfortable enough for most people and the features and battery life are solid.
The sound quality could be a tad better but all thing's considered I would be happy enough to recommend them.

Lightning Bolt
Lightning Bolt

5.0 out of 5 stars Tenth studio album and still superb, 27 July 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Lightning Bolt (Audio CD)
When you think of Pearl Jam, you immediately think of grunge and probably their most famous song, "Alive."

Well grunge has been dead for a while now but the musical juggernaut that is Pearl Jam most definitely is not.
"Lightning Bolt" is their tenth studio album, a straight up no frills alternative rock record, heavier than predecessor "Backspacer" but not hard rock as the "avocado" album from 2006.

Lead single "Mind Your Manners" is a throwback to old style Pearl Jam, quirky in delivery but not single potential in my view.
Second single "Sirens" though is a sublime song however, quite simply one of the best they've ever recorded.
Such a poignant melody with meaningful lyrics.

Other album highlights include the haunting "Pendulum" and "Swallowed Whole" as well as the calm ballad "Yellow Moon."
Fans of Pearl Jam's back catalogue will be familiar with the sound here, it's a song done many times before.

22 years is a long time for any band to be on top of their game, but Pearl Jam prove there's live in an old dog yet.
They are still as relevant and fresh as they ever were back in 1991.

"Lightning Bolt" is a superb alternative rock record and comes highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mark Tremonti branches out to superb effect, 27 July 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: All I Was (Audio CD)
Anyone who loves hard rock music with already be familiar with Mark Tremonti. Finding fame as the guitarist for 90's rockers Creed and more recently in Alter Bridge, "All I Was" is his first venture into a solo album taking lead vocals on as well.

Tremonti is of course the band name strictly speaking, but this album is the work of Mark himself no doubt about that.

You always got the impression that Mark never really flexed his guitar muscles in Creed, Alter Bridge sort of fixed that but now he's able to display those heavy and speed metal influences in his music, while still maintaining that crucial musical melody.

Lead single "You Waste Your Time" is a classic example, hard, heavy and melodic with a solo to boot.

The music here is hard hitting, heavy and fast. Mark vocals are decent as well, he doesn't have quite the same range as Myles Kennedy but nevertheless an accomplished performance.

In summary, If you like your rock and metal melodic with plenty of solos, then this record will be right up your street.
I wasn't sure quite how good it was going to be but from such a complete musician my doubts were unfounded.

Mark Tremonti is one of the best guitarists in the world and this record proves it, quite simply an essential listen.
