5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for any new student of French, 28 Aug 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I recently picked up French again at the age of 25 having not studied it since GCSE (grade A), and have worked my way through a number of resources (may I recommend also Paul Collins French Audio Course which is excellent), and both this book and actually if you are a complete novice, Usborne French for beginners, are two excellent resources to aid your learning. Easy French really helps to put together the different tenses and sentence structure in a clear and easy to follow manner. The book is split into double page spreads of information and then the next spread is a story which uses the new material. The only down side is that there doesn't appear to be an intermediate version using the same idea, the closest thing is probably La Vie Celibataire by Yvonne Bruton which Amazon provide in Kindle form.

I am a teacher (of Mathematics) but I would strongly recommend this book to any parent who wants to encourage their child to continue with their French as they are simply not given enough time at school to do this, you cannot learn a language given 1-2 hours a a week. This book is fun and brings you along in leaps and bounds, and also as with most usborne texts they have internet links provided as of course you must listen to the language as well, most of the links seem to find their way back to the BBC and are short clips in french, but they are still good given that they are free.

A really excellent must buy, get it for your children and don't allow them to lose the fantastic opportunity they have to learn a langauge.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not to everyones taste, 1 Mar 2008
This review is from: Detours (Audio CD)
Upon reading previous reviews I had high hopes for this album, noting especially that lovers of Sheryl Crow, The Globe Sessions and Tuesday Night Music Club would be particularly happy with a return to form after maybe the less than impressive wildflower. I'm afraid I would strongly disagree, anyone making these claims needs to go back and have a good listen to all three of those brilliant albums and realise Detours just does not come up to scratch. At a stretch I could claim there are maybe 1 or 2 average songs on those previous 3 albums but that really is it, they were the pinnacle of a musician bringing together all her talents, with the country, blues, rock influences, and a hell of a lot of passion and emotion. Detours is soft and flimsy at best and some of the songs are borderline irritating, this is Sheryl Crow meets pop music and they really don't get on very well at all. Although as a final note if you don't own any of the aforementioned albums they are all of the highest quality and don't be put off Sheryl Crow who definitely used to know how to make an album.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good platform, 12 April 2007

I have this book and essential arms too, they compliment each other quite nicely. This book really is for beginners, but in that repect it is an excellent book. Inside you have a 6 week training program and then 4 extension programs which look at different aspects of training, strength, size, sports and using different equipment. For those who want to pack on the muscle this probably isn't the best book, but the concepts considered go further than simply the weights, it promotes a healthy intelligent attitude towards weight lighting and training in general, it also considers cardio work. It is generally a good all round read i think once you understand everything in this book it lets you make better decisions about which direction you want to go in and then perhaps a more advanced book will be neccessary, for the price its worth starting here.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good player shame about the software, 25 Jan 2005
For the money this is exactly what you want instead of an i pod, at the same price as an i pod mini with an extra 12 Gb because technically the hard drive is only 18. something Gb, it's definitly a good buy. The software I would say is its only downfall, it doesn't really make a lot of sense and has often crashed my computer and constantly crashes media player when the USB port is connected to the player. However I have over come this by using media player seperatley and accessing the player through my computer, which is very effective. So once you have got over the software issue you are left with a very good player. The schroll touch pad is after a few days very effective, playlists are easy to create, there are many modes of play, even the head phones aren't bad and creative do provide you with a carry case which is good too. Because of the problems with the software I can only give this product 4 out of 5 it isn't as accessible as it should be for £160 but it wipes the floor with any apple product, I've listened to both and the music quality of the creative has a clear lead. The player itself is fantastic, and looks very good, the extra weight although seemingly bad actually gives more stability to the whole player when holding it. This is great if you have patience with your computer, forget the i pod, get this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Demands a listen, 23 Dec 2004
This review is from: Another Day (CD) (Audio CD)
This album is the next step in lene's career, her sound has matured greatly since playing my game. However this isn't one of those albums everyone will rave about that it has never left their cd player, i've listened to it twice in about a week becasue it demands complete attention and respect, you really have to apprieciate this album for all of its qualities and only by closing your bedroom door dimming the lights and playing another day at a reasonable volume can you do that. Unlike many female artists there are no catchy tunes in this album, every song is made by Lene Marlin's voice, it commands the dynamics of the song, the instruments never dominate but merely aid the songs. If you give this album the time it deserves it could well be your favourite album very easily, it definitely made me smile when i turned it on because it was exactly what i wanted it to be, and it should be for any lene marlin fan, for once no criticisms at all, this is perfection, every track.

I, even though this being Matchbox twenty's 2nd album purchased it 3rd out of the three. the contrast between the 1st and 3rd album is outstanding, but both albums are superb, Mad season was obviously matchbox twenty's attempt to change their style but failing, this can even be seen by their alternative dress sense in the pictures in the inside sleeve. there are no outstanding tracks and you can listen to the whole album without hearing anything definitive. however because of this you cant skip to your favourites there isnt bad and good, there is just a very bland average feel about this over produced album, if you want raw alternative rock grab yourself " yourself or someone like you" or if you want a more modern feel and heavier riffs and a quite superb 11th track 'your so real' buy "more than you think you are", you'll miss nothing here.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but not classic Counting Crows, 26 Sep 2004

This review is from: Hard Candy (Audio CD)
This latest addition to counting crows albums isn't what I would view as typical crows. Don't get me wrong this is still a great album with some fantastic songs like American Girls and Carriage, and Adam Duritz is still writing fantastic lyrics you just can't predict but if you are buying this album because you love songs like Anna Begins and Mr.Jones this isn't really the same, I would say this was my least favourite crows album, but hey it still gets 4 stars which says something about this band.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Final installment, 23 Sep 2004

DON'T BUY THIS ALBUM!!! unless you already own all other counting crows albums except Hard Candy, because you won't truely understand the genius involved in the creation of some of the hybrid songs on this album. The first CD adds a beautiful peace to all the counting crows songs as it is mainly acoustic, Adam Duritz is sublime throughout, even if you think you've heard the songs before by looking at the track list, you actually haven't this isn't the usual live album where everything sounds the same but worse for whatever reason like you realise the singer can't sing, I'll tell you this, Adam Duritz sounds even better live as the passion and complexity isn't lost in the recording studio this time. The second CD is far more upbeat with some of the crows songs actually rocked up a little, listen to this on the best music system in your house for every sure detail, and give it the solid 2 hours it deserves with no other distractions, this will be your favourite album after just one listen if you have loved all of the crows other albums, its just perfect.
