As a big fan of Almost Here and Santi, I was very much looking forward to seeing the progression the band would make in their third album. But unfortunately, their efforts fell short. An album that goes back to the bands high school roots, Fast Times is more of a step backwards in time and in sound...unless you love the sugary pop rock coating that has been a bit more than sprinkled into this record.
Tracks such as "About a Girl", "His Girl Friday" and "Summer Hair = Forever Young" are the particular offenders which will have you pulling your own hair out before you can say 'tooth decay'. That being said, the two star rating is purely for "Rumored Nights" and bonus track "Every Burden Has a Version", which are two of the best tracks Fast Times has to offer. Don't get me wrong, I am still very fond of this band, but I think this album is a failed attempt at fitting in with the popular All Time Low-esque genre of music. But hey, if that floats your boat, definately buy this album. Personally, I'd rather abandon ship and wait for the next one.
