Basil (Oxford World's Classics)
Basil (Oxford World's Classics)
by Wilkie Collins
Edition: Paperback
Price: £6.29

4.0 out of 5 stars Basil: Sensation fiction at its best, 16 Oct 2011
Basil is one of the first novels penned by author Wilkie Collins in the nineteenth century. Collins was at the forefront of the sensation novel explosion in the mid 1800s, he worked closely with Charles Dickens and the two were great friends. Collins' 'Basil' was serialised as were many of the novels of the time, on a weekly basis, possibly even printed in Dickens' 'Household Words' periodical of the time.

Basil is the story of a young man who fails to win the heart, or possession of a young lady to whom he becomes betrothed. The relationship is dogged by her tutor, Mannion, who turns into a possessive monomaniac. Basil's escape from Mannion are only the beginning of his problems. A really good read, this is Wilkie Collins, author of 'The Woman in White' at his best.

The Insider's Guide to Getting Your Book Published
by Rachael Stock
Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars Getting Your Book Published; Everything you need to know, 2 Jan 2011
This book provides a clear, jargon free insight into getting your book published. It provides great advice on how to avoid the pitfalls and problems of approaching both publishers and agents. Stock takes the reader right through how the publishing business actually works, how to write a great proposal through to dealing with inevitable rejections, and what to do about them.

Of all these kinds of books this one has provided the best information and advice I have found so far.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review of Linda Jones's wire and beadwork book, 4 May 2010
The Complete Guide to Wire and Beaded Jewellery is fabulous. There are many projects to attempt, and something new to learn for even an experienced beader like myself. I would thoroughly recommend Linda's book. The photographs are excellent, and the instructions are all very clear.

I love the beaded rings, and so easy to do as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars take it in the right context, 1 Aug 2006
This review is from: A Long Way Down (Paperback)
Nick Hornby's latest is by far the best. A Long Way Down is funny and heart warming. No the characters don't like each other, but that surely is the point. That total strangers can find a reason to live through each other is an extraordinary idea. Few books make me laugh out loud, but this one did, it also made me tearful. a jolly good read.
