For once a book is better than the hyperbole. After a fairly slow but perfectly measured start this is a riveting and rattling yarn. Sure, there are elements from Bond, Bourne and Jack Reacher, but there is also an originality that holds you like a vice. Bring on a sequel. Soon!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing book, but scary for Year 3!!, 19 Dec 2013

I am reading this with my class and they are absolutely loving it - especially the scary bits! It is nice to have stories where many of heroines are young black women which makes a change from the usual Disney Princesses!! (Except Princess and The Frog and Aladdin!)

A true page turner with a few spooky chills along the way. Not for the faint of heart. Bring on the next in the series.

Not an easy read, with some grim scenes, but a gripping plot with many twists to keep you on your toes. Highly recommended if you enjoyed her other two novels.

An amazing story. Never less than gripping and always keeping you on your toes trying to guess what comes next. Can't wait for the movie, especially as David Fincher is involved. Gwyneth Paltrow gets my vote for Amazing Amy.

5.0 out of 5 stars A balancing review?, 27 Sep 2012
This review is from: The Casual Vacancy (Hardcover)
As it appears that most people who are reviewing this haven't read it I thought I would join them. At least I have started reading it and am thoroughly enjoying it. Maybe I will come back and re-grade it when I have finished but womnder how many of the nay-sayers will do the same? I think we should only review a product that we have actually bought through Amazon -at least it would be more accurate!

If the price is an issue just buy it in its cheapest format - then pass it on to a charity shop if it is going to clutter your house.

Read at one sitting. Brought back so many memories of so many outstanding shows. Am now waiting for the Michael Grandage Decade At The Donmar.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just beautiful, 1 May 2012

I was also lucky enough to see Maria at The Donmar and this is a perfect reminder of that superb show. Her stories around the songs ranged form the heartbreaking to side splitting. High hopes that she will sing some of the Sondheim numbers at her Chicken Shed concert.

5.0 out of 5 stars A stunner, 4 April 2012

As others have said there are a few omissions but what is there is perfect! Imelda Staunton eclipses my previous favourite (Maria Friedman) and Michael Ball is a revelation.
I saw the production in Chichester - loved it but doubted that it would record well - I was wrong!!
