An excellent quadrology, ending with a promise of an opening to another series. A super read all through. Thoroughly recommended.

Kindle version: you get to the finish line before Bolt. More of a prologue than a full novel; does not add much to the storyline.

A whodunnit novel set against a background of "space". Don't expect interstellar wars in any detail. Excellent, well written, attention-keeping. Recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars A terrific read, 7 Sept. 2013

Is this the third and last of the series? Or a jump-off point to another? The storyline of this series is engaging and absorbing; I confess that some of James' concepts don't fit into my mental construct of James' universe, or storyline, but that is my problem and does not detract from the overall enjoyment of this series. The writing is excellent in my view. The books are of good length and you do not feel short-changed at the end of each. I thoroughly recommend the series

My only beef is that I have had to wait patiently for each subsequent release, much like waiting for the next episode a gripping TV series. But, if this is your first time, you are probably in for a treat.

If you are looking for other authors, you could try Mark Cooper (Merkiaari Wars), Michael Hicks (The Last War etc), Evan Currie (On Silver Wings etc), Jack Campbell (The Lost Fleet) or James Corey (The Expanse series). Please read inserts or sample downloads before spending your hard earned dosh.

Time to delivery not impressive. The product is poorly made. Of the five items I ordered, three have snapped off at the junction between the plastic and metal. In one instance I was trapped in my office when I tried to exit!!. Like I said, Try another brand.

I won't try to add detail to the previous 246 reviews other that to say that the central theme is sufficiently engaging to want me to move on to the Phoenix Rising. An excellent and well written Part 1.

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally absorbing, 2 Sept. 2012

Niven-isque, or even Pournelle-isque, series with Man-Kzin undertones. Totally absorbing, pacey and dare I say "intellectually" scifying (satisfying?!). No disconnects: there is a theme that runs through. There is loyality to principal characters.

Buy the trilogy of this and the (In Her Name) Redemption trilogy.

I would also recommend the First Empress but Michael has only done the first of what is probably another trilogy; it is also an excellent read but you will be left feeling slightly "empty" and desperate for him to get on and finish the trilogy.

Awaken His Eyes: The Awakened Book One
Awaken His Eyes: The Awakened Book One

1.0 out of 5 stars No rhythm, no beat, 11 Aug. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought books 1 to 3 of Awakened based on 4+ reviews and recommendations, having just come out of the "In Her Name", "The Lost Fleet" and "Leviathan Wakes" series. The story started with a promise but degenerated to a desperately slow pace where any external distraction was welcome. I stayed the course till Chapter 20 of Book 1, and gave up, as there was no significant forward development in the storyline. Since there is fairly strong support for this series, I expect the fault lies with me, my expectations and reading style.
