Earliest "Augustines" release prior to the name change to We Are Augustines. Good start and shows the promise they have now fulfilled

Loved early Kasabian, crossing Oasis, Primal Scream and Stone Roses territory but where on the guitars on this one ? As for the poem halfway through-remove immediately !! Only played it a couple of times so far and it may grow on me but as of now-not for me thanks

5.0 out of 5 stars A sad but great farewell, 9 Jun. 2014
So its farewell To Dan McCafferty as lead vocalist with Nazareth after 45 great years. And what a way to go out ! Hopefully Dan will still be able to record and release some solo stuff but whatever he may do, it probably wont get to the heights of this fine outing. In true Nazareth fashion, there are varying styles on this album but the common thread is a rocking band doing what they do best. Fantastic stuff and probably THE hard rock album of the year. Well done gents

5.0 out of 5 stars Great collection, 11 Jun. 2013
This review is from: Hard 'N' Heavy (Audio CD)
Hats off to whoever compiled this collection as, and this has been mentioned in a previous review, there are countless Nazareth compilations available. This one seems to have carefully avoided for the most part tracks included on the other releases and does concentrate on the rockier side of the band, albeit including a few of the staple Nazareth tracks such as Hair Of The Dog and Razamanaz. Nicely packaged and with a low cost, this would be an ideal starting place for any rock fan interested in one of the more original of the British rock bands. Dan McCafferty still possesses the greatest vocal chords in rock and he is ably assisted throughout this collection by the various members who have lived (and some sadly died) throughout the 45 odd year career of the band. Only Pete Agnew remains the other constant but it is good to hear the invigorating sounds that the "new" members bring to the band on the later tracks taken from 2007`s "The Newz". A great collections and a superb soundtrack when driving !! Buy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good stuff, 19 Mar. 2013

A mellow, but deep, Americana type release from another member of this talented family. Father Pete and brother Lee are currently the rhythm section of legendary Scottish rockers Nazareth and it is to the credit of Stevie that very little of their influence is in evidence here. If anything this would be veering towards "Ghost of Tom Joad" era Springsten with a touch of Emmylou Harris thrown in ! Some great troubadour songs, none more so than the full version of the title track. A fine effort.

5.0 out of 5 stars album of the year ?, 21 April 2011
This review is from: Big Dogz (Audio CD)
Completely different than anything the band have ever done before-which after 43 years and 21 previous studio albums-must be difficult. A heavy bluesy feel in the main , similar in a sense to Black Country Communion in style and production but far far better (and BCC is a damn fine effort !) this is the sound of a band completely at the top of their game. Dan McCafferty on this showing is so far ahead of any other Rock vocalist it is frightening and the individual efforts of fellow band co-founder Pete Agnew on bass and backing vocals, 17 year band veteran Jimmy Murrison on guitars and production duties and "new boy" Lee Agnew (after all he has only been drumming with Nazareth for 12 years !!) are stunning. Great rock tracks abound-Big Dogs Gonna Howl, Claimed, No Mean Monster, Lifeboat, Watch Your Back, Sleeptalker to name but 6 plus a couple of more radio friendly songs in Radio and The Toast but the album rises from great to brilliant by the inclusion of ballads When Jesus Comes To Save The World Again and Butterfly which contains a very emotionally charged lyrical tale. All this plus the celtic feel of Time And Tide and- if you choose the deluxe edition, a 5 track acoustic CD.
An absolute belter of an album which simply gets better with every play. Turn up to eleven and listen to the finest British rock performance for many a year.
10/10 doesn`t do it justice.
