4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining Vivid Characters!!, 13 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Thoroughly enjoyed reading about the sisters return to Dark Root, their childhood home, rediscovering their family roots and their sibling bonds and rivalries, very vivid characters and a delightful read to recommend....could be the start of an excellent series or just as a stand alone book worth dipping into...not so much magic but the suggestion of something backing up the portrayal of family bonds !!

3.0 out of 5 stars Really wanted to like this..started well!!, 8 Sept. 2013

Really wanted to like this book and until about half way through I did...Original idea..developed steadily and interestingly..definitely a new take on population control...reminded me of Stephen King / Richard Bachman The Running Man and the Anie movie that was made of this The Running Manor the Japanese movie where they kill each other in a competition..but this is not a competition..Curve Day can get anyone at all killed. It is a chance to settle grudges and old scores without fear of reprisal, for some to indulge their murderous side all in the name of population control and time to get inventive with defending your own.
The idea is explored thoroughly ,interesting parts on the consequences of earlier curve days as we build up to this years day..some nice character developement and individual situations described, the only down in the first part was slight long windedness and some stilted dialogue.. but I was happy to keep reading.
However for me as the actual Curve Day began the book deteriorated, more glaring typos popped up more regularly, dialogue was still unrealistic, ideas not followed through and action became confusing and unbelievable..such a disappointment.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Solid Four to five Stars, 1 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Absolute Delight..I made no secret of not enjoying the previous book I had read by this author but am so pleased that this ticked my boxes big time..it is only the first episode but I am truly keen to see where this series goes, the only thing that stopped me from giving a full five stars is the episode is quite short..but very readable page turning action, nice cliffhanger ending hinting at horrors to unfold..graphic reading with original idea, loved it!

ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE - INFESTATION FROM MARS
ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE - INFESTATION FROM MARS
Price: £0.99

4.0 out of 5 stars B-movie Story..Fun Read!!!, 1 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This rolled along nicely and made for a surprisingly good read...enjoyable,easy to picture..really could see this as a neat little horror flick..I pictured the sort of characters and action similar to Eight Legged Freaks [DVD] [2002]
Obviously not the spiders as this is a substance brought in from another planet and Zombies..but there is a dry humour involved especially when detailing the HV6T4's interaction with Marshall in its efforts to reproduce and the twisty ending is pure B-movie...well worth reading if you are looking for some light hearted action and horror!

4.0 out of 5 stars Plenty of good story here!, 31 Aug. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Focussing on an original concept for the start of a zombie style apocalyptic event..don't be put off by Ireland...there's plenty of cross continent information that makes the book relevant to all readers,Irish or not!..but this is a great infection idea with disastrous consequences...central main character Hartson, not much getting to know him but thrown in the deep end with him as Ireland hits detonation point at once,he is not unlikeable and there is a strong cast of surrounding characters throughout that change with the infection progression..Zombie purists need to stick with this all the way..just because our "zombies" here do not necessarily die with just a shot to the head but can be killed by damaging the heart and gradually burn out,do not put the book down..trust me!
There are a multitude of twists and turns but the main reason I took the time to write about this is..the originality..every idea is refreshing and new in what can be a stereotypical genre..usual plot is man lets bug out in lab ,bug infects people, kills them and they get up and infect others!! No not here,so read it and enjoy a refreshing breath of fresh air apocalypse!!There are a few minor typos and maybe would benefit from a quick edit/proofread but the pure excellence of the story and concept make it a must read!!!

Zombie Uprising: A Zombie Apocalypse Short Story

4.0 out of 5 stars Pleasant surprise!, 28 Aug. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
For the second time today I find myself taking the time to review a short story..so it must be good as I'm more of a novel lady..dipped into this last night and got glued to the end..very interesting start and choice of main character takes your attention on a ride to a nasty twisting final page, different ideas. The internet and electricity supply still being online gives a novel perspective on the zombie/infection scenario..the internet was relied on heavily in Mira Grant's Feed series and that is excellent and inventive too..also the infection of half the worlds population simultaneously is a refreshing idea..would look forward to reading more on this storyline!!

Zombie Cruise (A Short Story) (Zombie Vacations Book 1)

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Zombie Short I've Read!, 28 Aug. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Not a fan of short fiction, prefer characters to develop and join the ride with them..but this author gives us an amazingly main strong character, instantly pictured, as is her little companion, straight away through the action you are gunning for them to survive and escape the horrors on board(which are very graphic)...brilliant ending, won't say more for fear of spoilers, add to must read!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is what I wanted to Read!!, 28 Aug. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have previously tried a few catt dahman books but given up on them, there was something missing, but this is a whole new level...Lord of the Flies/1984/Zombie apocalypse..nice infection, brutally gross and many teen themes covered in an engrossing page turning story..The "in crowd" has never looked so unappealing but necessary...life is cheap but the will to survive is brutal...thoroughly enjoyed all the way through!

3.0 out of 5 stars Glad I didn't give up on it!, 19 Aug. 2013

This review is from: Rotters (Kindle Edition)
There is actually a wicked imaginative story here that I enjoyed..nice ideas, good scenery descriptions and settings, some cool characters ..but I initially gave up on it twice at the start due to the sheer woodenness of the dialogue and the sort of forced feeling ..it didn't seem credible at all yet something drew me back and I gave the book another go..as you progress the characters become more realistic..I really enjoyed the different stages of Africa and the disease progression ideas right back to the source..loved that one, really original,so put aside your scepticism that a group can trek across the majority of Africa and enjoy the flow, worth a read!
