4.0 out of 5 stars surprising little gem., 3 July 2009
This review is from: The Intruder [1962] [DVD] (DVD)
recently purchased the intruder after watching william shatner in the first series of star trek, and was pleasantly surprised.I have always enjoyed roger corman movies but to see him handling such an important issue as racism was certainly eye opening. The movie starts with shatners character coming into a small southern american town an immediately endearing himself to the locals by supporting their views on the soon to start integration of the local high school. His scheming to whip up mob mentality does not go to plan, and we reach a very interesting ending. The stax entertainment dvd as shown in the graphics has a 30 minute conversation between william shatner and roger corman reminiscing about the shooting of the movie and is quite entertaining.A very good purchase that i got at a very reasonable price.

4.0 out of 5 stars fox grandeur edition, 16 April 2009
the actual dvd graphics shown are of the 2 disc edition released last year.the dvd consists of 2 versions of the movie, the academy aspect ratio version and the original 70mm grandeur version which is 14mins longer and has a commentary track by richard shickel. It also has 4 featurettes ,making of(12:42),creation of john wayne(13:53),director raoul walsh(12:34) and the grandeur process(12:17).The grandeur one is probably the most interesting. The movie itself is surprisingly enjoyable and seeing such a young john wayne acting his socks off is great to behold.overall a very good package.

5.0 out of 5 stars better extras than the uk version., 12 April 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I just wanted to let viewers know that this ,region free, version has 4 commentaries and a few introductions that the uk doesent have .Also the interview with richard bradford is ,so ive heard, a different one than the uk although about the same length(36:24).The only thing that is missing is the booklet, but overall a better package.

5.0 out of 5 stars two disc edition, 21 Dec. 2008
I recently purchased the region 1 s/e that is shown in the above graphics and thought some one should give a review of the special features. They consist of a commentary by author, the life and times of john ford,Scott eyman, which is very informative and enjoyable,a new 84min documentary on ford/wayne parternership, which is excellent and a new 30min retrospective on the making of the movie, which unfortunately is narrated by scott eyman and therefore covers most of the same ground of the commentary.I hope this will help prospective buyers make up their minds about which edition to buy.I posted this because in so many movies the reviews seldom review the actual edition shown and it is hard to know which to buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars where are the extras, 18 Nov. 2008
i had recently bought the "icons of adventure" set from sony which had commentaries for all four films plus other extras ,so when i heard that they were releasing this set i was really looking forward to see what extas there was going to be so i was very disappointed to see only trailers especially as these are more famous and better films. The films are "the gorgon","scream of fear",curse of the mummys tomb" and "the two faces of dr jekyll",all 4/5 and make an excellent set.Pity about the extras.

5.0 out of 5 stars im one of many and i speak for the rest, 18 Aug. 2008
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a great concert all of the songs are high quality but my personal favourite is the "in the cage" medly ,absolutely fantastic. The band, reunited after 15 years is as good if not better than ever. From the opening beats of "behind the lines" to "los endos" and "invisible touch" it seems nearly effortless. The concert lasts over 2 and 1/2 hours and is packed with great songs like"no son of mine","follow you follow me","carpet crawlers" and"throwing it all away" to name a few.The show is spread over two discs with each track having a featurette of rehearsal footage ranging from 2 to 7mins in total about 75mins.Also one throwaway deleted scene(2mins).The third disc has a nearly 2 hour documentary of the organising of the concerts including the light show, which i forgot to say is brilliant, and other rehearsal footage and interviews with band and crew. The only downside to the extras is the lack of subtitles as it is sometimes hard to hear what is said when there is music and stage construction going on in the background.Having said that it is a great dvd set overall.BUY NOW.

5.0 out of 5 stars all time classic, 18 Aug. 2008
This review is from: The Searchers [1956] [DVD] (DVD)
This great movie is my all time favourite ,everything about it is brilliant, acting, cinematography, music and script. It has been reviewed well already so I will just give you a rundown of the extras. On the first disc there is an introduction from patrick wayne(2mins) and a commentary by peter bogdanovich which is very informative and also makes you look at some scenes in a new light.Disc 2 has 4 vintage featurettes from the warner bros.presents T.V. series(24mins) and 2 excellent documentaries "Searchers:an appreciation"(31mins) and "A turning of the earth:John Ford,John Wayne and the Searchers"(33mins).A very good collection but I think a movie like this deserves even more.
