A bone to pick with Amazon..., 24 Dec 2012
"The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Chronicles: Art & Design" is a great book and definitely worth purchasing if your a fan of film concept design. The book arrived before I expected it to. I'm happy about that.
My main complaint is with Amazon's web-page listings. Two versions of this book are listed on its UK website. Originally there were pictures of two slightly different covers. One dark the other lighter. I have checked back since and both versions now have the same photograph (with the light cover). The light cover was listed at £22.49 the dark at around £16.00. The light covers page count was listed at 272 pages, the dark at 208. I assumed that the lighter book was some kind of special edition, so I pre-ordered that one(I pre-ordered this book on November 26th 2012). When my book arrived I discovered that the page count was 208, exactly the same as the cheaper book. I checked back on Amazon's UK web-site. The page count for both books is now 208 pages. If you take a look at Amazon's US website, (at the time of writing this) it still lists the books page count at 272 pages.
I think the edition I purchased is the US version. I don't know for sure if there are any significant differences between the UK and US editions of this book. But I've got a sneaky suspicion that the only real difference between the two books is that the price on the back cover is listed in dollars and not pounds.
I think Amazon have given misleading information regarding the book I purchased. I hope in the future they make more effort regarding correct product details. If I'd have know that there was no difference I would have purchased the cheaper UK edition. Sorry about this rant, but I'm a bit annoyed. Sixty four pages of art work managed to drop out of my book from order to arrival.
